January 15, 20224 yr Author Popular Post No Leaks! Worked until 10:30PM last night but we "Gotter Done". Ended up having to replace a 3' section of 2" pipe along with the tank. After getting the old tank out and getting a good look at it I don't know how we managed to keep any water in it until we had a replacement. Since Tuesday we jack-hammered around pipes through 4 poured concrete walls, 2 cement block walls, replaced about 40' of 1 1/2" pipe, removed and replaced the condensate tank, and 3' of 2" pipe. (This fart forgot how heavy schedule 80 pipe is) Not too bad for a couple of mid 60's farts. Edited January 15, 20224 yr by Larry Buskirk
January 15, 20224 yr Popular Post The snail’s pace continues, but it keeps me out of the cold. Working on a vanity and sink next to the up flush toilet. Cabinet done, sink installed and plumbed. Doors and false front next, but I may squeeze in small drawers on each side of the sink. Edited January 15, 20224 yr by JimM
January 16, 20224 yr Popular Post Son and I spent a half day building drawers for his vanity using the 1/4-1/4- 1/4 method. That doesn't count the time it took to get the saw perfectly dialed in. Using this method requires 1/2" plywood. I had suggested using BB. Unfortunately, he went cheap and, bought 1/2" domestic birch ply. As we found out, 1/2" domestic plywood ain't 1/2". As a result, the drawers are approximately 3/8" too narrow. Another case of poor planning and, lack of knowledge and, foresight! So, today I'll be figuring out how to shim the drawers. At this point, I'm thinking of resawing and, possibly, planing shims to 3/16". Or, just shimming one side with 3/8. Time to put the FrankenSmith to work. BRB....maybe.
January 16, 20224 yr Author Popular Post It appears we "Gotter Done" just in time, 8° here this morning.

And we did in 4 days what the "Heating Guys" were saying would take 7-10 days to do just the first 30' of 1 1/2" pipe plus removed and replaced the condensate tank and another 10' of pipe at prices that were 4-5 times what we paid for all of the materials including the condensate tank which was $1235.00 (Wholesale price ) itself. Could have got it done in 3 days if it didn't take all of one day playing phone tag between the Wholesale and Retail Distributors. Have to wonder how much those "Heating Guys" would have charged with their retail price mark-ups and labor. Yep, Not too shabby for a couple of mid 60's farts. Same as with 110 volt? I currently have a portion of the wall open to run another receptacle for a light. Since I am here figured I might as well run the 12 volt wire for the spot light as well. I have just enough space to squeeze a 3 gang box in the wall. One for tool receptacle, one for light receptacle and possibly if needed one for a 12 volt port. Any ideas?? Maybe @Artie Gunny, I'm no electrician, nor plumber, but I believe the low voltage wires are usually routed to/through a "orange box" which does not have much for a back. Danl

Danl @Gunny...I agree with Dan. I think it might be a code violation to run low voltage with 110/220v in the same box??? Maybe @Artie& @DuckSoup can provide clarification/guidance expertise.

Ran 110 as normal with one receptacle for tools as I had it, and added one for lights which is switched. I did run a wire with 3 strands inside from that area through inside of wall to just above where my 12 volt power source is located. So wire is in place, all I lack is application for a box of some sort.
January 17, 20224 yr Popular Post So far this weekend it has been busy. Hiking with the pups on Saturday, errands and chores, and dinner with the in-laws. Sunday I have been able to get busy in the shop. I have been thinking about layouts for a while now and I moved a bunch of stuff around and started making stuff to unclutter the shop. Got a bunch of French cleats cut and made a ghetto pushblock. Picked up some connectors to start assembling pipe for a dust collection run and started making pipe hangers. Got a family dinner tonight so I am going to have to wrap up and call it quits for now but progress has been made!!
January 17, 20224 yr Popular Post Pretty much for the low voltage you can use any enclosure. The LV ones are easy to install and cheap, but iff’n you already own regular (?/line voltage) boxes, nothing wrong with putting low voltage in them, either.
January 19, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Still chasing yhpruM around the boiler system. Had to crawl about 30' in from the north end of the west "Time Tunnel" to replace the 1" condensate return pipe from the end of that branch steam trap. Broke right off at the reducing bushing into the condensate return line and at the steam trap. The broke off end at the reducing tee was the "Fun" one to get out but to quote @steven newman "We have our ways". The steam trap end was easier simply because I drug it out of the "Time Tunnel" to work on it. While waiting for the boiler to come up to temp so we can check for leaks (Again) I decided to start checking out why the blower motors in the forced air radiators were not coming on, along with fixing leaks in the compressed air thermostats. Managed to get two air leaks fixed and one blower motor working. Somebody tried rewiring the second one I was checking out but were trying to use a 3 wire cord to wire a 4 wire motor/speed controller circuit. Don't have a wiring diagram for the motor connections so I'll have to take the covers off of the other unit again. Also found we now have either a sticking valve or steam trap and a small leak at the next to be looked at radiator unit so once the neighbor gets it un-buried I'll check if that one's wired correctly instead of taking the first unit back apart. He's been using that room for storage and it's rather full at the moment. He started moving the stuff into the hallway last night. We've got to "Getter Done" today so they can open tomorrow. Closed Mon-Wed. I'm off to chase yhpruM, he'd better be hoping I don't catch him.

Better not try telling the Dr. that! It Is ALIVE!!! With a trip to the local recycle yard replaced 1 steam trap that was hanging up. Will rebuild the old one later. Looked into the ventilator unit in the storage room it's going to require a bit more work to get up and running than first anticipated. Someone had somewhat dismantled the unit and capped off the supply and return lines. So for now that unit is donating parts to it's other three siblings to get them running correctly. So far it has donated it's blower motor to one and a steam valve to another. Got the 2 units on the east side blowing hot air like I remember those "Old School" units in school when I was a kid. The 2 units on the west side are currently shut down while we search for parts. Considering we're still 2 ventilator units down not doing too shabby 12° outside 70° in the building. Oh Yea, I caught yhpruM in the west side steam tunnel. He's feeling a bit poorly after I got done with my 24" pipe wrench. Edited January 20, 20224 yr by Larry Buskirk
