October 16, 20214 yr Time to start doing the layout for the cabinet doors in the media room and get the raised panels glued up. Also getting the truck prepped to leave on a camping trip Monday morning. We are going to Capitol Reef National Park for four days. Paul
October 16, 20214 yr Popular Post Finally buttoning up mother's shed. Good thing she's a patient woman! The pergola and other exterior touches will have to wait until next year. The weather is turning on us as I type. But still no frost on the extended forecast. I'm older now, but I'm still slow!
October 16, 20214 yr Popular Post Still working on the theater set. All day Friday and all day Saturday. Help is not showing up. Two more work days before move-in. Hope we can make it. Still a lot to do. I think there are 29 pieces that we need to make. A lot of the big ones are at least started.

October 16, 20214 yr that exposed wiring needs to be in a conduit to protect it from physical damage.
October 16, 20214 yr in other news, found a spare piece of glass that was big enough (cut it to exact size) for the new picture frame. wife got it painted up and added sparkles. will assemble it tomorrow.
October 17, 20214 yr Author Got the old laptop setup for dual-boot XP 32bit/W10 64bit. Replaced the zif-pata 60gb hdd with a 256gb msata ssd from a broken ipod. Made a big difference. Also dug up one of my old Logitech trackballs. That crazy touchpad was driving me nuts. Like that would be a long ride.

Ok, the Honda Diagnostic Software requires Windows XP, but XP isn't so hot for internet use anymore. So at startup I tell the computer which operating system to boot into. I suppose that made it as clear as mud.

Brand new mobo requires a TPM hardware header key to enable the security feature. The chip shortage has made them extremely difficult to get. Have one on order since August. Really don’t want to do a registry hack to install the OS.

Requires partitioning the Solid State Drive into two partitions, then loading the first operating system on the first partition and the second operating system on the other. In this case I've got XP on a 60gb partition and W10 on a 180gb partition. When the system starts it asks which operating system I want to run.

It will be at least a year before W11 will be even remotely safe to use. M$ doesn't have a great track record when it comes to new OS releases. Give it some time for bug fixes and security roll-ups to become available. .40

Insider preview doesn’t require the security protocols to be in place to load/run

Only one out of four PC's here will be able to run W11. So until Oct 2025 we'll be running W10. Might upgrade the one, but not in any hurry. Not really impressed with what I've seen of W11. Might have to brush up on my linux skills. Edited October 17, 20214 yr by Larry Buskirk

Won’t be long until I’ll be getting calls to help with new user confusion. Need to be ready.

And it will probably remain the same "Run in XP mode" for quite a few programs that depending upon your hardware may or may not work.
