Those look great Fred. I think the slight differences only adds character to the table. Some person down the road with a sharp eye will know this was handcrafted and not mass produced.

It took me a while to get back to this, but I've completed my second try. I used a story stick and a couple of tips from the link Gerald provided and think I got a lot better result, but I've got a lo

  • WOW! You done good on that one!.    One of the nice things about legs and such are that they are usually not very close together, when in use. Slight differences between them aren't really n

Well, maybe I'm gaining on it. I got my 3rd attempt in on my legs. This billet is Douglas fir, which doesn't turn nearly as nice as poplar but I don't want to cut up any more of my poplar stash for pr

Close enough for contractor work.  LOL   Those are good, Fred.  Be proud and thankful that it is over.

Fred, I’m not one that blows smoke up peoples backsides, those are good. From the pictures I’d say they were machine made, they look pretty identical to me. You got some experience, and hopefully had some fun.

They look great Fred.  Looking forward to see the table come together now.

I will add that Dan is right , they are so close that once assembled no one will know except you. Stand them on the floor at about the measurements in the table and look to prove the axim. Now if that does not suit there is enough to reduce the bulge in that third leg just remount and use a skew to reduce that area.

I'm giving that some thought. My hesitancy is that typically when I try something like that I make it worse.:BangingHead:

Fred, have you decided on a style or shape of a William and Mary table?

Indeed I have, it's a published plan in PWW. Here's a pic of it that was on pinterest (?), whatever that is. My feet are not going to be the big round type, they are slender with a bead...mostly because I didn't have any 3x3 stock for the round jobs. May not have had the talent to turn them, either. For the record, this is unlike anything in our house...not sure what Marie will think when she sees it.

It looks like a mix of early American and French provincial design. You could change the look dramatically by changing the shape of the top and lower cross member. Can’t wait to see this one progress !

BTDT! Once I made what I thought was a beautiful walnut tilt top candle stand from Norm. Mimi hated it. Ended up going to some friends.
