I have spent some time this year reworking my shop arrangement. Started with a 60 amp service & this allowed me to move the compressor into an attached shed then hard piped it into the shop. Install a small dust system in the shed and connected my miter saw, belt/spindle sander & a port for my ROS. I passed on things to other people that could use them & got rid of things I haven't or won't need. Consolidated everything to the 3 walls in the shop.

I realized during the process that walking around my work bench to get to the other side of the shop just wasn't working anymore, time to downsize & go mobile.xz4.jpg.1243c4d499eefb5d3aa3e3b0c3b05187.jpg

The plan is to build a set up to house my table saw and router table in one mobile unit. I have had a good conversation with @Gunny about the do's & don'ts with regards to this set up, "Often suffer from paralysis by analysis in getting a project started" Thanks Gunny.

I have the base started with some 4x4 that my Dad had stored, straight and dry. Cut some lap joints, dry fit & ready to screw and glue.

Notches in the middle are for the uprights & the cuts were made, after the pics, on the end lap joints for the same.

:ChinScratch: Man does that sound familiar. :Tapping:

Let's see now that can fit here, or should it go there. :WonderScratch:

But if I put it there, that won't fit here.  :PullingHair::BangingHead:

Looks great so far.  The 4x4's will make this very stout.

@Gerald what brand of fence do you have on the table saw?

  • Popular Post

That is one made by Craftsman. All aluminum and was difficult to get set perfect but was smooth operating.

Added supports to hold the plywood base for the table saw. I still need to add supports in the middle that will allow me to bolt the saw in place.

The right side of the saw will be parallel with the center post & the top horizontal board is the back of the table. The space below the saw will hold a dust

bin & storage. The area to the right of the center post I will use as a router table as well as storage.

"need to downsize".  So do I.  I am clearing out wood and will clean out the garage in a year or so.  So much old stuff that has not been used in 20+ years.  I am not running a storage unit.

Really nice table.  I look forward to it being set up with sawdust and wood chips along with a few tools on it.  Please keep us posted on the progress.

I, like most of us, tend to acquire "things" over time & as time passes I start to wonder if I am really going to use it. With the exception of a kitchen remodel next year my project plans in the shop are trending towards smaller items.

Not a lot done but I have tops in place, switch for the table saw & dust bin in place. I plan on putting some drawers to the left of the dust bin to hold spare blades and such. I am going to relocate the 3 drawer pink cabinet to the right of the dust bin and still use it for push sticks & feather boards. I have line on a piece of counter top for the router table, maybe next week. Time to remove the table saw from its present home and break it down and give it a good cleaning & a new motor. I'll need to set the saw in place and mark mounting holes & cut out the area that will feed the dust bin.

Moved my table saw onto the workbench, heavy bugger, and started to break it down. Took the body off and marked & cut my hole for dust.

Looking good!!!

I remember doing that couple years back, twice!!  Once for each saw.  Took quite a bit of time to get everything set up.  Worth it though.

Well with the holidays done and in between parental obligations I've spent some time on the bench.

I was able to secure an island countertop that was the perfect width and I cut the length to size. I set it in place and realized my original plan was for 3/4" top and this was 1-1/2" which is taller than I wanted to finish. Instead of raising the bridge I lowered the river. I added a 7/8" strip on the frame under the saw which brought it flush with the top. Replaced the 5" wheels with 4" and that got me where I wanted to be on height.

Wire up the table to feed the saw and router, made a dust bin & bolted the saw in place. Decided to stick with the original fence. I'm installing t-track in the router top for a fence and I'll make them long enough towards the saw so I can build an auxiliary fence for the saw. This will allow me to cut over 19" which is the max. to the left now. Need to fill the gap on the outfeed side of the table. Top is set in place waiting for the router.
