July 25, 20205 yr Popular Post With a 50 bet you don't get to shoot the 100 rounds I do with a 9mm. Glad to see the son likes being with Dad. I have two that like to shoot if one will visit and if the other can work out the time off @John Morris Ask and ye shall receive . July 25, 20205 yr Popular Post ...I wonder what caliber a golf ball is? I haven't played with it in awhile but...FOUR!... from 1/4 mile away!

July 25, 20205 yr Popular Post Not mine, Gene, just something I got off the internet a while back. I plan to re-build my son's bench, since it's starting to fall apart. John

July 26, 20205 yr Author Those are wonderful plywood knockdowns by @Gerald and @HARO50. Unfortunately it will not fit into the trunk of my lil ol Toyota Corolla.

John Not really John, I have seen those, they are expensive, but I am trying to stay in the realm of wood. I really want to stay in the warmth of wood as the style of shooting we are about to get into is historical, American Revolution time period, 18th century and early 19th century arms. Not saying that the bench I build will be historically correct, but I'd at least like to build in the feel of wood. That shooting rest you have above also wouldn't fit our rifle at 50" long. Another factor to consider is the table size, I'll need a longer table than the stool and rest shown above, I'll have small sandbags for support for zeroing up the rifle(s). Actually the only purpose of this bench is for zeroing, if we get into match shooting or having fun at the Mountain Man Rendevous, we'll be shooting off-hand anyway, no bench. But after all, you all have provided me with plenty of creative ideas, I think I can start putting together a design here pretty soon.
July 26, 20205 yr Author This could be closer to what I am looking for. I can narrow it up a little, and instead of folding metal legs, I can incorporate 2x2 fold up legs.
July 26, 20205 yr Author @Fred W. Hargis Jr had a wonderful idea by his friends bench, the pipe for legs with flanges, but after I went to our local big box and found pre cut pipe and threaded the price per pipe was 17 bucks each, I couldn't see putting out 17 bucks per leg plus the flanges. If I had a pipe threader I could purchase the long 12' lengths for the price of one of the short pre cut lengths, and cut it down and thread one end for the flanges. So then I decided 2x2 wood would better anyway, it would fit my design I am coming up with now, and keeping it all wood. But if that pipe was available in a decent price, I would have gone with it, that is just too easy of an idea to pass up.
July 26, 20205 yr I just did a quick search I also came across this one here, seems simple enough to throw together and space conscious.

You may have to upgrade (downgrade?) to something more appropriate. John

Another great idea Andrew, thanks, I can certainly incorporate components of this into mine, the table would still be way to short, but I really like the saw horse idea, pretty neat.
July 26, 20205 yr I just did a google image search for portable knock downs and that's what came up LOL.
July 26, 20205 yr Author 1 minute ago, HARO50 said: You may have to upgrade (downgrade?) to something more appropriate. You know, I have thought of that! My wife has her beautiful new Honda Pilot she loves, got it in 2018, still new, she would never let me take it up into the hills on dirt roads, it's a city rig. I have my Corolla which is pretty beat (but does well on the dirt roads to get to our local range), and it's the only car I have, it's my commuter car for work, we could not afford a third car to be with us, just not practical, but what I have been considering is selling my Corolla, getting a few grand for it, and using that as a down payment on an old 4x4 something or another, old Comanche, or Cherokee. Something my son and I can use to branch out to further out ranges, we have some nice ranges here in our mountains but it would require more than my Corolla to get there. So ya John, you read my mind, now I just need to sell the idea to my wife, it'll be a hard sell, cuz my Corolla gets 32mpg HWY and I can run to and from work with one tank of gas each week plus one more working day on the next. If I get a 4x4 or even a two wheel drive truck, the gas bill is gonna go up! So hmmm, how do I sell this? Could be another facet of this topic?
