A beautiful November day here in Pennsylvania. Too bad I'm substituting and can't enjoy it.

Our Patriot Turners-

@Gerald is working on Christmas presents! He is turning some gorgeous pendants.

Checkout Gerald's post and look at the neat chuck he is using-

@Pauley is looking for some help finding snowflake patterns or sources. Please head on over to his post and see if you can provide any help-

For The Newbies-

Looking for an easy project that will make a really nice gift? Maybe this will give you some ideas-

Expand Your Horizons-

M. Saban-Smith has an interesting video showing how to embellish your turnings. He demonstrates what the Sorby texturing tool can do.

New Turning Items-

The folks at Woodturners Wonders have a couple of new sanding disk backer pads

Check out these products at- https://woodturnerswonders.com/collections/sanding-pad-holders

Everything Else-

In @Gerald's post on the offset pendants, he mentioned about making beads as part of the project. Mike Peace has a video on how he does them-

Gerald's project of offset turning really has lots of related information this week. Mr. David Reed Smith published an article using offset turning to add Celtic like rings to a turning-

The complete article is at- http://davidreedsmith.com/Articles/InlaidRings/InlaidRings.html. Mr. Smith's tutorials are extremely well documented and easy to follow. He also references several other articles on useful jigs.

In case you missed it, we added another tip to the Woodturning Tips  Forum. You can see it at-

@John Morris has made available just about all of the old Woodturning Forum posts. Some great memories from the archives.

As I pointed out at the beginning of this week's post, I'm substituting today, Thursday and Friday. Yesterday I received a phone call from the local Jet supplier-

So there it sets, in the back of my truck- it's just not fair!! Have to wait until Saturday to begin unpacking and muscling parts to the basement.

Safe turning

Thanks once more Lew. The ring box looks intriguing . I did some rings on platters when I first got my Offset Chuck.1120309855_IMG_2052(1).JPG.a470fd3183f15676e7e39816d1420f2c.JPG

Great post lew, that sucks you gotta work while the lathe sits in the truck.  You look kinda green, maybe you are coming down with something.  I prescribe, assemble a lathe and turn some stuff!!!

Wow Lew!  Talk about bad luck as if having to work isn't bad enough.  Gerald's pendants and mike Peace's beads show how small turnings can be as beautiful as a bowl.

@Gerald Thanks! Those are beautiful platters and rings!

@Woodbutcherbynight Thank You! I peeked into the box after getting home, today. That just made it worse!

@HandyDan Thanks! I enjoy turning small stuff, too. It can be challenging and rewarding.

As usual, Lew, this is another great post.  I did view a couple of the videos and neat ideas.  I really like Geralds offset turnings.

Prescription for your illness, just send the box unopened to my address, I'll assemble and test it for you.  And, if you need or want something made, just give me a few days notice.  Thanks for the generosity.

@FlGatorwood Thanks! Sorry, too late with your offer ;).  Got almost all of the lathe parts down the stairs to the basement workshop. Gonna need some help with the head stock. It's just a little too heavy for me to carry and too awkward of a piece for two people to handle on the steps. Gonna rent a dolly.

Have not had to move one down stairs but one way is to use straps . That gives you something to hold without it cutting your hand. that headstock usually has a some sharp edges.

A suggestion for moving large items up or down stairs.  Make a sled out of plywood, strap the stuff to the sled and use rope or straps to lower from top, and one person to guide from bottom.

@Gerald and @Woodbutcherbynight Thanks for the suggestions!

I did created a sling to help me lift the head stock. I could lift it but I knew there was no way I was going to be steady enough to get it down the steps. I ended up going to U-Haul and renting an appliance dolly. Strapped it on there and it worked like a charm!

I slid all the other pieces down the steps on cardboard.

MImi said when we sell the house- the lathe goes with it!

Naw we just hire a mover . Got to keep that one for life;)

We have outfit here called student movers, they are University student business that work as movers for money and business credit.

There is also Student painters that do house painting inside and out.

they come out bid the job, hire other students to do the work under their supervision, and are graded by instructors at the end of the job.
