November 23, 20196 yr comment_209785 Guess if it happened to me it wouldn't be funny. I have a paint stirrer, but my drill is set on low and the trigger is pressed slowly. Variable speed. The blades never reach the surface while stirring. Report

So I took a car power window motor and use that as my paint mixer. It goes very slow, no bubbles. I like it because you can set it and walk away and it will slowly stir at a steady pace. The paddle is for demo purposes. Have never taken a picture of the stainless steel one I made up for it. Report
November 23, 20196 yr comment_209814 Artie, fixing the mistake and landing on your feet is part of the process. Your method of using a guide to redrill the hole larger is what I would have done. The guide has to be clamped very tightly to the piece you are drilling. A brad point bit would work, but you got to start it slow so that it cuts the larger with the spurs. A forstner bit would also work. I wouldn't use a normal metal bit for this except as a last resort. Report
November 23, 20196 yr Author comment_209842 I handheld the guide I did use a brad point bit, but where the center mass was missing for the point to center itself, I was wondering if a regular bit mighta centered itself better, instead of grabbing. I don’t think I have a Forster that small, but now I will go check that. Report

The idea of the forstner bit sounds good. I have an 8 piece Irwin set that I got on Ama*** that has a 1/4" bit. Jim Report

Yeah, he had it at max speed and a full gallon of paint. Paint is EVERYWHERE!!! ...I guess that's one way to paint a DP! 13 hours ago, Woodbutcherbynight said: No picture, I will spare the guy the humiliation. November 30, 20196 yr comment_210786 Artie and all others with a Shopsmith, you can set up in drill press mode or horizontal drill mode. Set your table 12-13 degrees from center of the drill path. Use your first bit to drill for the screw shank. Change bits to the larger and center over the drilled hole. But, this bit should be big as the screw head. Drill just past the outer edge and then you have a Kregg bored hole. And, yes, I use only Bradpoint bits. I will demonstrate sometime this winter. Report

YES, I told my S-I-L that my fee for the project is a photo of it in Nino’s room. I had fun making it, and I am learning. Report
