Looks like Steve is using a PM 3520A. I have a B and now they are making a C.

He Gerald, it is a powermatic but I was lucky enough to find a used 4224 at a price I could afford a few years back. It is an awesome lathe though.

Thanks Artie, it's intended to fit me and was done as a learning project. I hope to do several more and refine my process. I'm still amazed at the very idea of doing such a thing. This has been the ho

Thank you but I have to say it again. I had LOTS of guidance doing this first one. I won't deny that I'm very happy with how it went but I've got to give credit where it's due. As to those questi

We had a life altering event in the spring. Without going into a lot of detail I haven't really turned anything since early in May, or even been in the shop for that matter. it also seriously affected my free time so I haven't spent a lot of time on the forums or FB groups. Things are starting to get a little more normal around here and I'm hoping to get back in the shop after the first of the year. i have some ideas for new projects and a couple new videos but just haven't had time to pursue them.

Sorry to hear that @Steve Krumanaker.  You have been scarce around here.  I just thought maybe you were more active on Facebook as others have.  Wishing you the best.

Looks like I’ll be learning on the Shopsmith LOL.

Artie, I can't remember if you have the PowerPro headstock.  If you do, it starts at 100 rpm.  If you have the mechanical headstock, it starts at 750 rpm.  Either way, there is a speed reducer to attach.  It does shorten the turning stock capability, but I don't remember the measurement.  It is far cheaper than one of these notable and worthy machines in the professional level.  The speed reducer is an attachment (STP) and is found here.  https://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/speedreducer.htm

Steve, it is so great to see you back here.  I always look forward to your comments and projects.

@Steve Krumanaker sorry you have been going thru it, but glad to have you back. Some of us old regulars have been busy answering many questions here and need the help.

Ok, I misspoke.  I thought I remembered that the starting rpm was 100.  Actually, according to the Shopsmith site, the starting speed of the PowerPro is 250 rpm.  https://www.shopsmith.com/shopsmithpowerpro/powerpro.htm

I don’t see the crow, you basically said the Power Pro head has a slow enough RPM for turning, and you were correct. And I will definitely start any turning I may do, on the SS, before I move up to one of them Powermatic beauty’s.
