December 27, 20196 yr Popular Post I got real lucky and picked this Brodhead and Garrett lathe at an auction for $75.00. It's all I'll ever need....
December 27, 20196 yr I only ever made one. I just used a parting tool to make the rings. Glued the rings together and turned and sanded it. The Ring Master lathe set up properly cuts the rings well enough that the bowl is just sanded after the rings are glued together.
December 28, 20196 yr Yep. The one in the picture will cut in from both sides. Everything lines right up.

December 28, 20196 yr Thanks Steve for sharing. I saw a video of a guy making those hats and was unbelieving. The skill level is outstanding. Just a terrific and wonderful piece of turning. How do you keep them from cracking during drying? Again, wonderful!
December 28, 20196 yr 16 minutes ago, Kevin Beitz said: Tell us why you like it so much.... 1. It is one of the gold standards for lathes. Robust, One Way, Powermatic, Vega, Stubby 2. There are plenty of users out there to help if a problem arises and how to repair if needed. 3. Parts are readily available, even tho I have not needed one as of yet after 6 years of fairly steady use. 4. Accessories are easy to find which fit this machine. I also have a extension power switch so I can shut down at tailstock in and emergency. 5. It is very heavy and I have the bed extension on also so weight is 764. 4. It has a substantial tailstock and is easy to maintain. 5. Though I have only used it once there is a mount for a comparator to match turnings. 6. Locking levers work well and the fit and finish of the lathe out of the box was excellent. 7. Has two speed ranges for low and high speed to change torque if roughing or spindle turning. Also the speed control is convenient to use. 8. Although not a feature for every turning it is also reversible. 9. A convenient feature is a shelf on top of the headstock.
