March 24, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Hand made = $$$.....Had a "Me Day" today.....got meself out of the house, and did a solo road trip...Anna, OH....$5.... Small dividers, and a tap wrench....next stop...Hobby Lobby, for new Hardware Hinges, latches, and even some fancy feet brackets... Finally, Go Harbor Freight! $17 for four clamps....three 12", and a single 24" clamp.....the 24" is to replace that POS gray clamp that was fired.... Honey-do list when I got back home....seems the Boss has bought a "Shed in a Box"....guess who gets to build the dang thing.. Instructions leave a LOT to be desired.....methinks that +2:00 means two days....got the frames assembled.. And tied down.. I guess this counts as "shop time"? Now, I am too tired and sore, to even think about going to the shop... Maybe tomorrow, IF it rains all day, I can do a bit of woodworking? otherwise, I be outside, cussing up a storm ( and drawing a Rain Turtle..) Stay tuned..

March 24, 20197 yr Author Afraid there won't be any space for my stuff, other than ladders storage...got no floor in the shed.. New clamps are in the shop, box is out of the other clamps, been cleaned up, a top has been made to almost fit. A plywood bottom has been cut and glued in place, vise is holding things while the glue cures....even worked up a sweat in the shop! Waiting to see how much "help" I get today on that shed build.....before the rains show up.....film as I get it....may get ugly, today...

March 24, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Rain Turtle worked.. Spent a bunch of shoptime, instead Bottom panel has been cut, beveled , and glued in place....Lid? Has been cut and fitted... Latches I bought yesterday..are a tad bit too big... Sides were sanded and planed smooth, even used a spokeshave to work on the front of the lid... Test fitted the feet brackets, and then used some big tools to install them... Compared to the screws I was using... Normal sized pencil. Hinges? After snapping two of those screws off, I remembered to WAX the threads...I also chucked a nail into the drill, and predrilled, lid was easy But, I needed helping hands to attach the lid to the case.. Lip on the lid in the vise....left these NEW H-F clamps on, while I installed the handles, as well... Remove the clamps, get out the stain and a brush...time for a PIP? Front view, shadow on the handle... Hinge side....and... Handle sides....thinking a box for Recipes? Waiting on the stain to cure, before the clear coat poly goes on....and, I can start on the second box.. Stay tuned..
March 25, 20197 yr Author Same stain was used all over, including the lid.....camera and the shop lights sometimes have "issues" on how things show up...end grain came out a bit dark...as usual for end grain...

March 26, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Ok, cleaned that pair of 4" dividers up.....marked as Union Tool Co....hmmmm? Did a bit of resaw work, now have a sore spot on the hand from a kick-back.....that then bounced off the wall....was using a push stick....that is what hit the wall Picked through the stack, found 2 boards that at least matched each other...and spread a bit of glue... Will let this sit a day or so..out of the way....got the four sides for Box #2 cleaned up and flat...had an issue.. then does this with the ends and the sides clamped up...1/8" wider sides..Going to be one of "them days?" Laid out for the dovetail pins.. Hmmm...fun is about to begin...backsaw first. trying to split the lines.... Set up to do a bit of chopping....one chisel? Nah... Sized as needed... Dry fit..got to about here...was getting to the point something was going to get tossed against the wall.. Yeah, one of those days.. Decided to stop for the day...maybe tomorrow, I can get something done? Stay tuned

March 29, 20197 yr Author Was too nice of a day Thursday, spent most out on the road.....Wednesday? a ROYAL PITA to do, even for two people working on it....weather was great...except the breeze did NOT help a bit.... Friday? nasty outside....may just be a decent day to hide out in the shop...maybe after Lunch? Stay tuned..

Agreed Thursday was a nice day compared to the last couple of hundred. I too spent all day on the road including round trip to Indy...nothing productive done at home. Nice job on the shed...I've considered a version here, but after all the 50-60 mph winds we've experienced this winter in the wide open plains afraid it wouldn't survive. Several in the general area didn't make it this year. Living residential should give you a big boost for live expectancy. Hopefully, yard & garage sale season will open soon so we can return to fun again.
March 29, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Mid 50s outside, today....light, drizzlly rain all day long....thought i would hide in the shop, all day.....wrong....was told WE had to go to the stores, and the bank... Was able to get a little bit done, before that happened, though....laid out more dovetail pins.. Decided to try out the Hobby Lobby saw. As long as I keep the blade waxed from a candle, cuts decently enough, starts a lot easier than my No. 4 backsaw...hands do not like holding the handle and it takes twice as many strokes to make these cuts... can almost split a line, and leave some on both sides of the cut...Chopped halfway down.. Before I flip this over.. Pins are done! use these to lay out the tails...saw those, and chop.. Almost time for a dry fit? To see how much fine tuning I'll need Set this aside, and laid out, and cut the next set of pins...even had it clamped up, ready to chop Was told time to go.. may sneak back to the shop after a while....BTW, there MIGHT be enough left overs... To build a third one of these boxes? We'll see.. Stay tuned
