Weekend Update: State Sectional Swim prelims Friday night-Finals Saturday afternoon. I now know why there normally is one day/night between events and it has nothing to do with the athletes; Nearly 8 hours of sitting on aluminum benches in a humid environment takes it toll even with cushions.:BugEyeSmiley: Bitter sweet watching the oldest swim her final events...a 3rd, 5th, 11th, 14th. Last two, positions were out of 38/event; youngest did not qualify for finals finishing 17th (one position out) in each of her two individual events but did swim her best times ever in both thus moving up in her position seeds; she also was the 1st alternate for both relay events.

"Our" team finished 4th overall out of the twelve; one girl did win two events so she will be at State prelims on Friday; grand-daughters are going to support her. Host team (from our county was 1st; 3rd place was the other county team/school); Good day...was even better when I got to the truck and turned on the heated seat.:P Oh...I could have made the WW'ing Show Friday after all; Friday prelims started 15 minutes late:rolleyes:

Sunday afternoon and yesterday afternoon it was warm enough, I "drove" my new toy around some. I'll get a thread started later this week, but suffice for now, it's all I thought it might be and more. Thanks @DuckSoup for putting me on to this. Can't wait for warm(er) weather to really take it through it's paces. Great tool and even greater company and people.

Remainder of the week: Wed.haircut and errands; also youngest grand-daughter's "sweet 16th." IDK how that has happened; Thursday, step-father to his monthly eye doctor appointment; it will be injection #144...12 years and what was an experimental drug having been used for prostate cancer treatments has kept his macular degeneration from progressing. His doctor is retired USN-Captain....brilliant. Friday, back in the deep-freeze weather-wise so shop work is nadda.

  • @Cal, old buddy...I do not envy you that job.    Today is shot. Been seeing sporadic blood in my urine. So, I have an appt. for a blood draw at the VA at 09:40. A 10 or 15 minute job but, it

@Gene Howe - here's hoping the best results come tomorrow for you.

@HARO50 - very sorry to hear this latest news regarding your son.  Prayers have been sent.

@Woodbutcherbynight - congratulations for your son's achievement.

@Dadio - those planes are sure looking good.  Haven't caught a single comment about how boring it is to see more of them!

@Grandpadave52 - What are the senior granddaughter's plans?  Maybe a college swim team?  Please do give us a good follow up on the "toy"...

Thanks, Cal. Really won't know anything until Friday's appt.

She's still undecided; has talked about business and digital graphic arts likely at Purdue??? She has been accepted at several colleges & universities based on her academics; swimming at the next level is unlikely; she's a pretty good swimmer, but not "great"; she's a good kid and student, but not committed to the level of work ethic required.-_- Now, if social activities were a competitive event, she'd be All-American:lol:

I found with my 2 daughters and 4 GKs that the best approach is to yak with them in a light-hearted fashion about life choices, giving my insight and experiences, never making anything an expectation. Its better to help them learn how to analyze and think on their own. They want the freedom and your confidence in them. :OldManSmiley:
