Three in one oil will be gone in no time...I would recommend wheel bearing grease but with that stuff being out  in the open saw dust will head to the grease before you can get it to the bearings.. 

   I have a model Delta lathe with the Reeves drive and I replaced the pulleys both with 5 step machined pulleys and very smooth running but there again I have to change speeds by hand. But hey I am retired so I'm not trying to set the woods on fire...
