February 12, 20197 yr I think you'll love them, John. But, I'm keeping the originals. Moving the Smiths is part of my cardio regimen.

I hope they are an improvement Gene, mine are just so danged stubborn. Once I get the Smith rolling it's great, but to get it to change directions is sometimes impossible, it just won't turn, unless I grab it by one end and really push hard to make it go that direction. Keep up the cardio work Gene!
February 12, 20197 yr Popular Post My poured floor has fairly wide and deep relief grooves. Get one of those little wheels caught sideways and, you're in for some hefting. I've just learned to live with it.

February 12, 20197 yr The concrete guys were instructed to not groove the floor. But, they did it anyway, while I was gone. The grooves not only make moving the SS difficult but they collect dust and dirt. I've tried fillers on other concrete jobs around the property but, with less than stellar results. Like I said...live with it, I guess.
February 12, 20197 yr with a monolithic pour, supposedly, the grooves will crack instead of the rest of the surface. Sort of stress relief. This was a 24'X36'X6" pour with 16"X 8" footers. It was poured over 6" of well compacted AB over good, solid ground. And, we used wire mesh. In 20 years, no cracks have developed anywhere.

Oh shoot, I got it, I thought that you had grooves all over the place, like a half inch apart or something, ya I got those expansion joints and grooves too, thanks for the clarification Gene.
February 12, 20197 yr Popular Post Y'all know larger wheels turn easier under load. Also I have tried a few tricks. If you can mount or tie a bar low across the legs and attach rope it will move easier due to the lower center of gravity of the pull. I have a wood rack that I hace to use a prybar to change direction of the wheels so if you can make a slotted tool to go over (or around) the wheel when you want to change direction you just get the tool out , turn the wheel and go in another direction.
February 12, 20197 yr I have no experience with the older casters, or any other floors but me own. It does move easily, and where I direct it to, with little effort. Methinks you’re gonna be happy.
February 16, 20197 yr Author Well that excitement didn't last long, they didn't send me the paper template to drill the new holes. Back in the box they go! Till I get a template.

February 16, 20197 yr I'm sure you looked but wasn't squirreled away with the packing/shipping list per chance?

February 17, 20197 yr You would think the templates would be printed pages of the owners guide... Anyways, in case you haven't, you might want to read through this thread. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maintenance-and-repair-f10/premium-casters-revision-d”-t21327.html You might be able to make your own from this video & information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oe60U27lzA Found this too on their (SS) forum...seems like there are several threads and issues with template revisions.
February 17, 20197 yr Author @Grandpadave52, thanks a million for the research and links, reading now! Thanks!
February 17, 20197 yr John, I don’t know if you are a member of the Shopsmith Forums, but I would suggest you do so, if not. A lot of info there, a lot of helpful people there (kinda like here). I believe your machine was previously owned, so having other people who have traveled that path, and might have useful advice, can only be a boon. I’m kinda thinking that Gene has probably already covered this
