August 23, 20187 yr OK, the chicken and sides are ordered, as are the donuts. I have the drinks, fruit, and pies on hand. So I guess there's no turning back now (at least for me). Looking forward to meeting you. Latest on the weather: now they are saying a small chance of T-Storms in the AM (40%), so if yu want to stretch your legs walking around we should be good to go.
August 24, 20187 yr The cookie board comes out tomorrow & everything should be ready to pick up coffee Saturday morning.
August 24, 20187 yr Try to finish mowing ahead of the big front just west of here still in IL. Clean & fill the bird feeders, check over the truck, load up some surprises for HandyDan and hopefully hit the road around 5P. Hope the storm front fizzles like the weatherman promised??
August 24, 20187 yr Popular Post Bowties are done & ready for powder, fold overs on the board being prepped

August 25, 20187 yr Popular Post IT'S LIKE CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST!! LOL First, thanks to Fred and his wife for their hospitality! Second, thank you to those who attended - my wife and I really enjoyed meeting all of you - what a great bunch! Special thanks to Easy Wood Tools, Laguna & Woodcraft for donating the bags, backpacks, t-shirts & hats, mugs and pens. Also - I have been intrigued with Easy Wood Tools for some time, and now - thanks to them donating the mid-size micro detailer as a door prize (which by the way I won thanks to Mrs. IrishWoodCarver pulling my ticket - now, now - before anyone yells FIX, there were 7 other witnesses that can attest to it being fair - lol) - I will be able to test and see for myself how they work. Last but not least - THANK YOU Handy Dan for the beautiful turned pen and base - this will have a special place in my shop. The insert of the 2017 penny is a classy touch for identifying they year created - so again THANK YOU! Edited August 25, 20187 yr by IrishWoodCarver
August 25, 20187 yr Popular Post Well folks, the 2018 Midwest meet and greet is in the books. Before I forget, I want to give a big TPW thanks to Fred Hargis and his wife for opening their beautiful home and shop for this fantastic event. Also, a big shout out to our site sponsors for supplying a variety of great gifts. You folks are the best! Lastly, thanks to HandyDan for sending a donation of a Wood River Plane and some beautiful turned pens and holder. Attending in person were a Fred Hargis, Bob Prochak (DuckSoup), Michael Thuman, Steve Newman (Bandit), Dave Zimmerman (GrandpaDave), Keith Mealy, Bob and Louann Phelan (Irish Woodcarver), and myself. Also attending via FaceTime was John Moody. The day day was filled with food, fun, food, lots of chatter, food, laughs, food and even a lesson by Steve. A little rain didn’t dampen the event at all thanks to Fred’s very dry and very nice shop. Over the next few days I’ll post pictures and videos but here’s a few to start with. Thanks to the generosity of Easy Wood Tools, Laguna, Woodcraft and Dan Hunkele everyone went home with a swag bag loaded with goodies and two lucky attendees left with a Wood River #62 plane and an EWT mis size detailing tool. The Louann Phelan drew the winning tickets with the first name out getting their choice. First name drawn was the Bandit and shockingly, not, he chose the plane. We jokingly told him that all of the planes in the dungeon would be jealous. Louann then drew out her husband’s name for the detailing tool. I think his treat that she would walk home if he didn’t win it may have worked. Today was a really special day and it was great fun putting faces with names. Thanks again Fred! Maybe next years soirée can be in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Hint, hint, Allen Worsham. FB29A7E6-C32B-456A-BEDC-5705EA59A921.MOV
