Our Patriot Turners @Headhunter is traveling farther down the rabbit hole of Ringmaster bowls! Here's another "Leaky Bowl"! Check out more images in Tony's post- @RustyFN shared a really nice resaw jig for the bandsaw. He says it works great for preparing his segment turnings- Rusty received lots of comments. Please check his post and see what you think! Rusty also scored some fantastic maple for turning blanks! I think he's trying to take over Steven Newman (aka The Bandit) for what he paid for the slabs! We had some more friendly teasing on Rusty's topic of carbide tools- A couple of new additions to our "What's On" Post @Fred W. Hargis Jr saw a neat little box with a drawer from Tim Yoder and decided to give it a try- Fred gives us more details in this entry- And Rusty showed us a gorgeous cedar shallow bowl he is turning. Great comments on this one, too- @Gerald posted this in the "Good Monday Morning" forum. He and his Mrs are getting ready to move into their new home and they needed some curtain rods. It wasn't until I got married that I learned the difference between curtains and window treatments- about $200 per window What's Coming Up- Cindy Drozda has a tool talk this Friday, October 24 Click on the "Watch on YouTube" button above/left to get a notification of the start. As part of my screwing around with the lathe I wanted to turn some drawer knobs. Not only for the experience, but because I wanted some for my shop cabinets. So I searched up a quick "knob turning" set of instructions, this one from Wood Magazine, and tried it out. First step, make a screw chuck. mine is in the pic and turned out much as they directed. Then I mounted a 1 7/8" square x 1 1/8" thick blank (cherry) and set out to make a knob. But the blank comes off the chuck. Not unscrewed, but at first the screwed tore the hole out and the blank fell off. I drilled a much smaller hole on the opposite (this is practice) side and tried again. Same result, although the blank appeared to be secured quite tightly to the chuck. I was taking very light cuts, first with a carbide rougher, then switched to a small spindle gouge for the second attempt. The screw I used is a #8, and it protrudes from the chuck by 1/2". I'm trying to turn face grain knobs which does bring up another question. Wood said to round the face grain blank using a spindle roughing gouge...I thought that was a big no-no. Roughing gouges and faceplate turning are bad juju. Back to my question, how do I make a screw chuck to turn knobs.....at this point the Wood instructions seem to be suspect. Do I just need a bigger screw in my chuck?

I'm making a jewelry case for my daughter in law with the black limba hardwood that I need to make knobs for. I thought I had some birch one from Rockler but couldn't find one. Do any of you have one you can take a photo of and provide some measurements? I need to make a 1" knob. Thanks for anyone out there that can help. Best, Ron

And, in the mad rush to get all things "put away" after Christmas is over.....The Boss had an idea on how to both tidy up all the coats sitting around, and reduce the pine boards I have on hand..... Laid out five holes on a piece of 1x6 cull cart Pine. Had 5 drawer knobs to use up. Pre-drilled those five, plus four others to attach the thing to the wall.....with 2" long Stainless steel screws that were also sitting around in HER way....She had a spot picked out... Not the best photo. This is set up between the back door, and a back window. Right over the hot air register. Warm coats before you leave, or have them air dried after you come home. Two screws at each end go right into wall studs. Pre-drill was with a Goodell-Pratt automatic push drill, #188A. Screws were driven with a Stanley/ Handyman #133H "Yankee" screwdriver. Both for the wall screws and the knob screws. Took a few minutes, then I could go and hide from other "Honey-Do" items.....hey, at least this was wood working...she'll want it painted as well, I guess...
