Hmmm..Task #4 is completed..

Glued up the 2 long sides first..then added the back...then..

Added the drawer dividers and the corner braces...am now waiting on the glue to cure...

Monday?  Hmm...when I get bored, I venture to the shop, sometimes..

 

Plan WAS to just remove all them clamps...and hope nothing flies apart.. so..

But, then these showed up...wanted to be installed..

2 thicker ones as Runners, 2 thin ones as drawer guides...runners were a bit too rough to use, so..

"We have ways.."

 

Notched to fit around the inside corner of the legs....

A bead of glue, first clamp is right behind the drawer's bottom divider...need it and the runner to be flush, when the drawer slides in...2nd clamp is at the back...I used a combo square to set the runner level,, then a 3rd clamp in about the center points...repeat for the other runner..

Needed "Guides"...

That is the thin stuff...these fit along the inside of the long aprons...and guide the drawer straight..( and NOT bounce off of a leg..)

More clamps, more glue..

Ran out of 6" F style clamps, so..those 2 others will just have to do..

Will let this sit a day....while I decide whether to build the Drawer, or...work on getting the Table's Top done..

That's gonna be a nice long drawer.

Either one is fine. You still have almost half of June to complete this project.

Drawer it is, then..

Front get connected to the sides, via Half Blind Dovetails...so..Lay out...

And a few tools to use...saw is first..

Without cutting into either baseline...next?

A stiff putty knife, ground flat until it matches the kerf of that saw...Tapping it down where the saw can't reach..trying NOT to split the wood..Next..

Clamp it to the cutting board, grab a couple chisels...

Needed to pare the right floor a bit flatter...

Use this to trace out the Tails...cut those over on the Bandsaw, and try a dry fit..

Repeat for the other front corner....

Back corners get through dovetails...

 

One on the left/ Compost happens when one gets in a hurry...ooops.  

 

Then, all 4 sides need a groove..

Took almost as long to set up the plane, as it did to mill 4 grooves...

Got to about here, when Ser Uncle Charles invaded the toes of me Left foot...and was trying to do the same in the Right foot...

Next trip to the shop?   Will try to cut the 1/4" plywood panel down to size...and try a glue up of the drawer...

 

Stay tuned..( walking up those stairs, while holding a Shop Cat...was NOT fun..)

Bottom panel is fitted...on the second try...

Glued up, checking back corners for square...

And the Front as well...side tried to bow in a bit..

Installed ( no glue) a spreader bar...

Letting this sit overnight...

Drawer is out of the clamps...has been cleaned up...adjustments made so it will slide into the base...

Was a bit fat on the left side...trimmed that back..

That will do...I had bought handles..

Even the smallest was too big...so...

Will use this one...first, I need a hole drilled..

Cordless, of course 

Dab of glue, and a drive with a hammer...

That should do the trick.  BTW:  2.5 hours in the shop, this morning...Skinflint Owner does NOT pay Overtime 

 

Slots needed drilled..

One in each corner...drill straight down, then rock fore & aft until a slot shows up..

These are for the screws to attach the top to the base,,,speaking of which...

Tried out the new Harbor Freight BeltSander on both faces of the Top...New Sander?

Ran this awhile, dump the dust bag,,do the other face, dump the bag again..and, while that sander gets a rest,  2 other sanders went to work,,,then a hand plane, then the No. 80 scraper,,,with the best looking surface going to be the show face...

Center up the base onto the underside of the Top...add the 4 screws...I also marked each corner out and beltsanded a curve..

Involving just the bread board ends..

 

About this time, toes were starting get crampy....swept the shop, called it a day..

 

Next trip to the shop?   Sand everything to 220 grit, and brush on/wipe off a coat of Witch's Brew Stain..

It's really looking good!

Mighty fine looking table!

Looking really good. I think maybe you stole some of my designs, could be that is why I like this one so much. Now I want to see how you get the screws in the top,looks a bit close,,,,,,watching.

Oh, the screws are already in there...Top is secured to the Base...

 

Tomorrow may be prep going on to get things ready for a coat of stain...we'll see...

This morning,,,Stained the base and underside of the Top....and the Drawer...

Witch's Brew...brushed on, wiped down...let this sit for a while...

Came back later...changed out router bits...

Flipped the table over...and ran the cove bit all around the edge of the Top..

Put the router away...hand sanded the top @220 grit....then..

Scraper Time!    This one is set a bit coarse...this was followed by..

One that was set Very Fine...had to do a bit more work at that knot...then wiped down the Top...and..

Brush on, wipe off, and let dry overnight...as for the rag used?

Methinks it has seen better days.....so it was tossed.  

 

Maybe tomorrow, I can avoid the 90+ weather by hanging out in the shop?   Get the first coat of varnish on the top..let that dry,  flip over and do the undersides.. let THAT dry...will do the drawer separately , to avoid getting it stuck...Then see about a second coat for the Top?

I love Ash, for some reason. I think it smeels like Cherios when planing or sanding. 

First coat of "Warm Gloss Poly has been brushed on the top...allowed to dry for 4 hours, rubbed down HARD with a new Lint-Free Rag....then flipped over and laid onto a layer of the same rags...and the the Base got it's coat of varnish...as did the drawer's Front... let them sit overnight...this afternoon...Rubbed down the base, tacked it off...flipped the table upright, sanded it to 320 grit,  tack cloth to clean it off, then a coat (#2) of Warm Gloss Poly was brushed on...as well as the Drawer's front.

 

Letting this sit a day...

Table seems to be done..

And ready to be hauled upstairs..

Drawer pulled out a bit to show off, otherwise..

Too much shadows...Top doesn't look too bad, either...
