March 31, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Task #3...involves one of these.. Some 90 degree cut and some.. And some 45 degrees cuts..none are to go all the way through...we have other tools to help.. Like maybe a clamp to hold the part in place, and.. Another saw and chisel...then do a lay out... Make a few more cuts, try a dry fit.. Then tried the next corner... Needs a bit of fine tuning will try again next time I am in the shop.. Stay tuned..
March 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Just picked up a 4-pack of this bad boy. Can you say "beer brandy"? To be consumed after work in my shop!
March 31, 20251 yr Author Popular Post So..working when I am really tired, in the shop..does not turn out very well...This cut.. Should NOT have been 1/2" deep....only needed to be 3/8" deep. so, when I go to glue up the first 2 corners, I am going to have to add a 1/8" thick shim, to fill the gap... IF I get really bored ( and rested up) and wander down to the shop...those depth stops will be the first things on the to do list.. First 2 corners are now going to be the bottom corners of the door... Stay tuned...

March 31, 20251 yr Author Popular Post RHIP...or, so they say.. After the news about the Landlord..decided to do a little in the shop....reset those depth stops...and made sure the saw stops at the line.. I think that will do...how does one know IF you are cutting a perfect 45 degree miter cut? Look in the reflection on the saw. Was also having issues with that No.68 dovetail saw...fired it, and switched over to the Disston No.4 Backsaw... Yep, this one...seems the No.68 wanted to wander all over the place in the cut...No. 4 had no such problem...Test fit.. I think that will do nicely...repeat for the last corner.. The 2 at the far end will need the shims, during glue up... Ok, which brings up... This handsome devil...this end NEEDS trimmed for square...badly...the other end? Just a tad...just enough to get it squared away... Stay tuned...will see how tomorrow turns out...
April 2, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Ok, after all that running around this morning...waited until AFTER Lunch before I went to the shop... Need to do this..twice.. To get both ends of the panel squared up...then reset the saw... Blade is tilted 20 degrees, more or less..( lost the pointer thingy) and then run all four GOOD edges through.. Once all 4 bevels were done, and before I can mill rebates around the inside face.. Needed to plane a few place flat...or at least flatter than this... Then the rebates were milled, checked for fit, and then fine tuned for fit.. Made by Sargent as a No. 79, type 2, sold at SEARS as a No. 3720.. Yes, it has been Nickel Plated...a couple of Dry fits.. This is just one side, looking at the inside of the door...the outside? Then...CAREFULLY rotate this mess.. Slide the other Stile into place...Hmmm, would appear I will need to adjust that corner, before a glue-up can be done... Stay tuned..
April 3, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Got things as fixed as I could...spread some glue..added a few clamps.. And let this sit a day or 2...while the shop dries out.. Seems the Dungeon Creek has risen...thanks to all that rain, yesterday....one "Frog Drowner" too many, it would seem...
April 10, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Up-date time? Hinges have been installed.. And a fancy "Toe-kick" has been glued in place.. Then a coat of of Witch's Brew brushed on, and wiped down.. Once this clamp came off... Once the stain was dry....I could install a Latch.. (Like the view of my shop?) This morning...brushed on a coat of Minwax Warm Gloss Poly.. To shine things up a bit....I even found a Brass handle for the door.. Will install when the varnishing is done... Stay tuned..

Only thing I might add would be some small felt pads on the feet bottoms to prevent scarring up your new table. It sure beats our small plastic totes stashed under beds.
April 12, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Moving day..after rubbing down the varnish with 0000 steel wool, and adding a handle to the door... Hauled it upstairs .. As I had a collection to load up.. To see how they fit the case.. Still have plenty of room...close the door, and move this to it's new Home Station.. And see how the door works in that area.... Added a small "Accent Piece" up on top of the case... Figured they would fit right in... Project is now done..thanks for looking in
