September 11, 20241 yr https://www.911memorial.org/ Our Patriot Turners- Member @Bob Hodge asked a question about finishing techniques. Please a take a moment to stop by his post and see if you can add to what has been said. @AndrewB got his lathe up and running. He had some banjo problems. Some more activity on our "ON/OFF" your lathe this past week- From "OFF"- @Gordon showed us a gorgeous ash bowl- Catch up with more images and comments here- And, from "ON"- @Gerald, @forty_caliber, @teesquare and @kreisdorph all added to the list of projects! Richard Raffan demonstrates his techniques. A nice article from the AAW for turning a box- https://www.woodturner.org/Woodturner/Resources/AmericanWoodturner/2024/39-4/Turn-an-Elegant-Round-Bottom-Box.aspx?fbclid=IwY2xjawFKoZFleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHd70o6bnhe3biMaw4eMHg0YMuogHclDn5Edy5zIkS5T_NplWyoMPlYYtOg_aem_tdq_nHfgzU8xEPiTDfDttA Expand Your Horizons- @Gerald uses paints to embellish some of his turnings. A short video on the chuck and some of its features. New Turning Items- Ron Brown has developed a new sphere turning jig. Looks like it might be a pretty nice piece of equipment. Everything Else- Safe turning
September 12, 20241 yr Thanks for the post Lew. Funny thing Jeff Hornung did a demo on threading the weekend before SWAT and he used the Carter tool. Several guys ordered one. I have a one piece Iles which I still have not used but have it handy just waiting for inspiration.
September 12, 20241 yr Thanks Lew. AA few of us have purchased a boring bar set. There are a few videos on YouTube that show how to turn them into a ball turning jig.
September 12, 20241 yr Man, there's a lot to like about the Easy Chuck. Maybe someday if i ever become a real turner...instead of a wannabe.
September 15, 20241 yr Author @Gerald Thank you! @HandyDan Thanks for the video! I see lots of possibilities with the boring bar setup. @Fred W. Hargis Jr Thanks! The chuck is a really well designed piece of equipment.
September 15, 20241 yr @HandyDan for those who do not have a metal lathe I cane see using the boring head with different bit (which I have) to turn a sphere. mmmmm. Reminds me I need to get the Josana jig out and do some more stuff on bowls, platters and boxes.

Wood is softer so the tools to turn larger balls don't the same rigidity as for metal.

I haven't yet put the Jaho Jig together but found and bought the cross slide table used in the video. For anyone interested it is only 4-5 lbs and is well made and works well. Here is a pic of it.
