January 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Colder than H E Double Toothpicks here this week. Ice on the ground here and about 20. Shop too cold for work for at least a week according to the weatherman. Other than that all is well here. .40

January 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Been fighting a problem I've never had before, and didn't even know it could happen. The gas line to the house froze up. This is LP, and the regulator to the house apparently froze. Yesterday I noticed when i was trying to start dinner (supper to most) that the gas range wasn't working. I checked everything, then went to the shop where the furnace was working fine...the shop is on the same tank as the house, but fed through a different line/regulator. Next step was to pour hot water on the house regulator and VIOLA, I was able to cook dinner. About an hour later the range didn't work again. Called the LP supplier this morning, they will be out to add methanol to the gas tank, my immediate fix was to wrap the regulator with a 6' heat tape and insulate it. So for the moment we have gas.....in a good way.
January 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Wow @Fred W. Hargis Jr did not know it could get cold enough in the states to freeze LP. Had a productive weekend . Got the frame done for shooting bench. Packed the A/V equipment into the new box. Just relaxed after church yesterday. It was 30 when I got up today and up to a whopping 36 now.
January 15, 20242 yr Popular Post oh, a very exciting morning: brought some stuff down to the shop, including a brand new TS blade. prior one was 2 years old (yes, i mark them), and upon cleaning last week, i noticed several damaged teeth. time for a new blade. 50 tooth combo, thin kerf from Freud. it's very pretty. RED! so got that installed, and then put away a work bench's worth of stuff, everyone back to their homes, ready for next project, whatever it may be. then brought out some stuff to the garage, and wandered up to the guesthouse to run the water for a bit and keep the P traps full. now, goofing off.

My supplier said all LP has a trace amount of moisture, some more than others....the methanol will absorb it. Apparently this is more common than I would have thought. My first thought was that all the rain we got last Friday (only an inch, but that was over about 18 hours) managed to leak into the regulator somehow and then the temps drop on Saturday/Sunday caused it to freeze. My supplier said that's not very likely to have been what happened.
January 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Natural Gas can freeze also due to moisture. Just ask Texas. We Energies uses driers at the pumping stations here in Wisconsin.
January 16, 20242 yr Popular Post Woke to a frigid -12° this morning. Also no water. Wife said she had water when she first got up. So out to the well house/ aka storm cellar. After some diagnosis, determined the well pump/motor had failed. It's a 1 hp, convertible jet pump. My application is for shallow-well. Anyways called TSC in Boilertown, they had one (same as the old); they reserved it for me. Had to take Mrs. to work in the mean time. Her Jeep wouldn't crank at least by remote start. On to TSC, got the pump; boy have those gone up in price; nearly double the last one. Quick stop at Menards for some fittings, stop at Casey's for a few donuts back home 2-1/2 hours later. Warmed up to -6° by then. Anyways, after a couple thousand trips back & forth to the garage and up/down the storm cellar steps, about 5P fired it up with valve off to pressure tank. All's good. Open the valve to fill pressure tank a couple minor leaks, a couple minutes later tank filled; its an 82 gallon. SIL brought Mrs. home; I had already removed all the screens from the faucets, shower heads...she called me from the house, I opened valve from tank to filter and house, praise to God, everything's working; nothing frozen. Anyways, a hot shower never felt so good tonight. Water pressure was amazing. Oh, when I got back from Menards before I dragged an extension cord and battery charger to her Jeep, grabbed my fob, did a normal start, it growled a little but fired right up. I let it warm up, drove it down the road and back. Glad it wasn't the battery; they ain't cheap either and it's buried under the front passenger seat. Still have several tools to gather from the storm cellar, the old pump etc...maybe tomorrow. Started the Jeep manually around 8:30P; fired right up but it was warm outside too...3 above. Other than that typical Monday. Tomorrow I'll catch up here while I'm eating one of those Casey donuts; perhaps two. Signing off, I'm bushed.

January 16, 20242 yr Popular Post I got the last battery for the Pilot at the "Boneyard" last winter $30.00 plus $5.00 core or old battery in exchange. Took my battery load tester with and found a less than 6 month old 700 CCA 48 month AC Delco Group 34. Pilot calls for a group 24 550 CCA, so I just put the battery in backwards, and used the battery box from an Odessey.
January 16, 20242 yr Popular Post With daughters help we got the sheet goods cut to size and carcasses were assembled yesterday. Weather has taken a turn for the cold side and forecast to remain this way for the next week. I won't be doing too much in the shop for the next week...

Good news it started just fine today. I'm beginning to suspect she had already remote started 2x which is the limit w/o a reset normal start. IDK? Edited January 16, 20242 yr by Grandpadave52
January 16, 20242 yr The suns shining so I went outside to see how it was, ... Nope no better than yesterday, guess that weather app is right -9° WC -26°.
