June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post Good Monday morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! A new forum I'd like to introduce our newest forum. After some back room discussion with our hosts and admin, we thought it'd be fun to try something new around here, so we built our newest community feature "The Pay it Forward" forum. In this forum, you'll be able to give away tools and what-nots to your fellow community members. The recipients will pay your favor forward at a future time, here in our community, or in their own personal lives. This is an honor system feature. We all have those "things" laying around our shop, it's too much of a hassle to list it on Ebay, we don't want to throw it away, but we'd love to just give it away. Or, perhaps we just want to do something nice, our world could sure use some more "Nice" right! The only obligation the recipient has, is to pay postage, and pay it forward. Enjoy this wonderful new department here on The Patriot Woodworker, I do hope it catches on. I will find something in my own shop to list, I hope I'm the first one to list an item, unless you beat me to it! I have kicked off our new Pay it Forward Forum! Enjoy! Welcome new members To view our newest members and welcome them to our digs, please see our Members Page, you can "Sort" by join date and click on their names and be taken to their profile page where you can leave a message of welcome. Thank you for making our newest folks feel welcome. Featured Topic @Smallpatch is at it again! He is in a ducky mood these days Most downloaded Featured video Give this 9 minute video a little time, and you'll see a master at work, the chinking of the timber walls I found very interesting. Not even the Big Bad Wolf could blow this house in. Enjoy!
June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post Had a nice picnic on the back patio with my siblings Saturday. Got a couple coats of finish on some stuff yesterday.
June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post Car buying 2.0 Not often you get a "do over" when it comes to a large purchase. In fact, this may be the first time ever for me. Following our unfortunate "mis-hap" last month it was time to look for another car. I could have gotten angry - but that would be a waste of energy with zero return. Thinking about the car we lost, we both really liked it - but I did wish I had sprung for the extra couple grand to get the next trim level. So that's what we did. Shopped around and went on another road trip adventure and brought home a 2023 Kia Niro SX in mineral blue. Driving it home I learned how better to use the cruise control and enjoyed the ventilated seats. Nearly 1,000 miles and over two mountain ranges we averaged 54.5 mpg!!! I hope it's not a Friday build, I did notice it was missing the KIA logo on the front panel We also stopped for a short break in PA to meet up with Mid-Atlantic TPW member Lew. A great visit, and Lew gifted Julie one of his famous rolling pins, that made Julie's day and will soon be in use to make a day for me too Many thanks Lew, greatly appreciated! Looking at the week ahead I have base cabinets to work on, getting the drawer faces painted. Tomorrow is a dental cleaning and then about 103 errands to run, likely more as the day progresses. One of the errands is to pick up some plywood to make shelving for the wall cabs I hung a couple weeks back. And, I will look around to list something up on the pay it forward thread.
June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post Got home last night from the family reunion in Nebraska. Unpacked and hit the sack. Sure was good to sleep in our own bed. In a little while. I've got to go pick up our pup from the sitter. About a two hr. drive RT. Phyl needs to go grocery shopping to restock some virtues. No shop time, today. Still unwinding. Probably not a lot of shop time for some time. Phyl has several tests to undergo. Some several hours long. Depending on the tests, she will need from one to six weeks recovery time after the procedure to replace her aortic valve.
June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post Ran several errands Saturday AM into early PM. Quick trip home to unload goods, attend to a few quick tasks then load up some tools and over to SIL's. He (daughter actually) had a brake line rust through on his old '93 GMC Sierra. Rear line just beyond a union. I was able to cut line past the bad section, remove from the union then a trip to town for a 12" brake line, new union and 1/4" brass compression union. Cut the flare off one end of the new line, made a couple of bends, spliced the new section in, bled the rear brakes, no leaks and good pedal. Parts for their van DID NOT arrive Saturday after paying up for expedited delivery. I detest FEDEX; terrible service. Anyway van is disassembled waiting on new plugs, coils, intake seals. Supposed to be here today. Not as intimidating job as it looked. Hopefully will be back together later tonight. Mrs. took today off. Still waiting for my task list🤪. After the rain, wind and storms yesterday, stick PU first, then will need to mow. It's been almost a month. Not likely today as random, scattered showers expected after lunch. Still have tools to put away from Saturday. Rest of week will be determined by what breaks next. Plenty of other stuff if everything else stays together. Watching an on-line auction tomorrow. Not much in tools but a very nice, 4'x7' air hockey table. Would be for grandsons now that they have a nice, large basement. We'll see.
June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post @Cal SWEET ride. Sorry you had to experience what you did and especially Julie to get it, but great upgrade. Cooled seats are very nice. June 26, 20233 yr Popular Post @lew Been experiencing the same for a few days. Weekend was not eventful unless you consider that I discovered that sweetgum log has ring shake. Sad because it had some great spalt. Bad weather late last night so was up with the puppy later than I expected. Today went to son's place to prep for bush hog Wednesday. We will probably not get much done with him on vacation this week as it is supposed to be in upper 90's and 100 on Thursday.

Hey, give me a break... after all, I AM 73. Got a medal for it, too. Well done John! I drove to town, then Cracker Barrel for lunch before driving home Sunday. Did have to walk a distance from the parking lot to/from the entrance. I didn't get a medal though; but hey, a guy I graduated with from high school bought our lunch. Betcha' didn't eat that medal?

June 28, 20233 yr Mowed about 1/2 yard yesterday but started later afternoon. Hope to finish today. It's been nearly a month. Even with getting nearly an inch of rain Sunday and a little over 1/2" about a week ago it's still very dry and grass is extremely tough. Plenty smokey out there too. Taken early evening. The barn and grain bin is less than 1/2 mile, SW as the crow flies. Corn would typically be tasseling by July 4. May make shoulder height by Tuesday? Field to our west which was planted later barely will be waist high. 2.3x zoom 8.0x zoom

That was with a fairly good NW breeze too. I've never seen anything like it before out here in the open country. Weather people say we're in the middle of some sort of Jet Stream trough pattern along with Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. Today is looking like it will be worse.

Hey Gramps, do you smell the smoke as well?
