January 15, 20233 yr Author Popular Post Cobalt is apart and waiting for replacement Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Flywheel, and Hydraulic Release Cylinder (Slave Cylinder). The Clutch Disc had started disintegrating, and had gotten hot enough that both the Pressure Plate. and Flywheel surfaces had started to flake. Told Stepson "Your Mom told me to tell you that YOU get to put it back together". The look on his face as he looked around at all of the parts removed was priceless! His reaction,... "OMG" "I see that as an EPIC FAILURE".

January 15, 20233 yr Popular Post Well, it's a Sunday. Time to organize my daily meds. Got 6 ea. 7 day containers. Fill each one and I'm good for another 6 weeks. The VA has me on 5 pills daily. Plus one OTC vitamin D. Been taking that D for several years. No proof but, I'm convinced that it has helped ward off that Chinese thing. Well, the vaccine probably helped, as well. After the pill thing, finish sanding to 220 on Phyl's coffee table. Then work on the router inlay. Will be using templates from Tarter Woodworking in Martinsville, Indiana. Any of you midwesterners ever heard of them?

I don't think so, he's had the car since 2014 and the clutch hasn't been done while he's had it. He's talking about getting another car, and both the Wife and I keep telling him to wait until prices or a deal comes along. I myself don't see why he shouldn't be able to get at least another five years or more service out of what he has for a lot less $ than having monthly car payments. He had the front suspension redone about 2 years ago, and the way I dismantled it shouldn't have affected the alignment. (Removed Struts, and Steering Nuckles/Hubs as complete units.)

Did manage to get him started with his Rock Auto magnet collection. After that showed him the price difference between Rock Auto and AutoZone for the identical parts. Came out to just a little under $250.00. Go Rock Auto!!! Edited January 15, 20233 yr by Larry Buskirk

Not sure what the labor rate is here or where you are so just multiply that times local rate and add your parts in. Looking over the R&R procedures I'd say 2.0 - 2.5 hours, time on task. The advantage being I have a LIFT. Where I work the work order only has labor hours to be billed and part numbers. No prices. If we have a labor rate posted that might be in front office. It is rare I am up that way. Most of the time new tickets are dropped off at my toolbox with notes on what order to do them in. Or I get a text message changing that order.

Guess I wouldn't make it in a shop any more, I'm probably at about 12 hours or so just getting it apart. But considering I started the week with my back about out, and was working with hand tools I don't feel too bad about it. Now that I know how/where everything goes, it should go back together faster. I hope! Besides that at $0.00/hr. I think he's getting his moneys worth.
