Friday December 9th 2022-What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Featured Replies

:ChinScratch: That was a fast week  Friday again folks! :D

Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" it looks like it'll be "Sloppy Friday". We're forecast for 2-4 inches of "Slop". <_<

Yesterday was another "Boneyard" run for parts for Bruce's 05 Express.

One of our favorite "Boneyards" website was down from Saturday until late Wednesday afternoon.

(Found out somebody hacked their site when we were there yesterday.) :(

When it came back online it showed they had an 05 Express 3500 out in the yard.

When we got to it, somebody had already been there, and as usual it looked like the only tool they had was a crow bar.

Could tell they didn't know how to take the dash apart, they simply busted up everything to get at the steering column.

Had a sinking feeling when I saw that, but somehow they didn't damage the instrument cluster with their strong arm tactics so SCORE!

The instrument panel in the van is still playing games with the instrument lights. Has to be a ground issue, half the lights work then don't and then the other half work, and then none of them work. Wiggle the instrument panel just a bit and the game starts over. :Tapping:

I'm going to give it another look over, the schematic for an 04 shows two ground terminals for the two sided circuit board.

I've got a feeling one of them has a "donuted connection" that I didn't see when I replaced the burnt out bulbs.

If I can't find it, I'll swap out the cluster which will require reprogramming the VIN # and milage into the replacement.

Also got the SRS (Air Bag) Control Module just in case I can't get the original to reset. ( I've been told this can be hit or miss depending upon which codes are stored)

Replacing it would also require reprogramming the VIN # into this module.

Bruce also got a few other items, and the grand total was $110.25.

Not too bad considering both the Instrument Cluster, and the SRS Control Module both list for $350.00-$400.00 each.

So when the "Slop" clears I know what I'll be doing, What's on Your Weekend Agenda? :WonderScratch:

I've been doing sheetrock repair, priming and painting.  I should get "that part" of the project done today.  Then on to making some trim and deciding on which garage door & company to go with for a new door.  Regarding the new door, I called one company on Nov. 9th - they said they would get a guy out here to look and quote the job, I've not heard from them since.  In mid Nov. I called another company - they came out that day, measured and gave a quote.  Last week I called them back and told them I was ready to commit, the guy said he would write the contract up and stop by for signature and collect the deposit... you guessed it, I haven't heard anything since :WonderScratch:

But I digress, this weekend - complete the painting.  Do more sanding of drawer parts & just enjoy the downtime of no political ads, phone calls and spam messages!!!  It had definitely gotten out of hand.

Building a entry door set of steps with a 48X48 top platform. Why so big you might ask. Firstly, the 34" security screen door opens outward, of course. One needs a large top step so you can stand on it and open that door without getting knocked off. Secondly, Phyl wants it big enough to accommodate a wheel chair when the time comes. Of course, that would also require a ramp. Thankfully, neither of us are there, yet. If that time comes, someone else will be saddled with that job.

We built the back door steps in a similar fashion and, fortunately, I saved those plans. One of the few times I've excersized a bit of foresight.

We'll get that done Saturday with our sons' help.

Sunday is TBD but, there's plenty of shop stuff to do.

Mrs. Boss is going to her sister's house to do the holiday baking.  That leaves me and wookie-boy on our own Saturday.  I'm anticipating the arrival of a Guinevere sander later today.  I'm planning to bolt that down to the shelf under the lathe.  I didn't order anything but the motor and the cable.  Not planning on buying into the crazy inflatable arbors or the proprietary abrasives.  Just plan on using the sanding pads I currently use with a drill motor.  I'm hoping this will be less noisy and fatiguing than the drill motor.  While I'm down there will also permanently affix the vacuum pump.  Hmmm that sounds like a project.

 They've already started new one's here. <_<

Out earlier for a quick trip to town to drop cats off at vet; back home before 7:30A. PU late afternoon.  D119-Could this be the day the Buick is released from captivity? Dealer left a message on my cell phone + two on home phone yesterday evening to call him while we were at the ballgame. When I stopped by Wednesday, engine was back in; still had some miscellaneous work to complete at that time. Grandsons will be spending the night and part of tomorrow with us.

Tomorrow, a few errands and perhaps bring the Buick home. Latter yet TBD. No outside work with rain in the forecast. Shop, aka garage is only open for emergencies until further notice or 60° weather returns. At that time, the project list consists of various round-2-its.

Sunday, church responsibilities plus Christmas program followed by annual Christmas dinner very likely followed by a nap at home.

Doing the joinery and glue up on the organ bench Friday.   Tonight is a zoom vocal concert from a grandson in MI, tomorrow is set building for "Legally Blonde" then off to a second choir concert for a local granddaughter.  Sunday is beekeeper's club annual luncheon meeting.   So not much time in the shop after this afternoon.  Monday back to the furniture bank to mentor another set of volunteers.  Tuesday night another concert for a second local granddaughter.   Must be the season for concerts, as we had two others last week.

:ChinScratch: Got asked if I'd be interested in a clean 07 Ridgeline that's due for the 100K Timing Belt/Water Pump kit, and also needs brake work.

Owner got told (By Dealer) it needs $1600.00 worth of brake work along with around $1400.00 for the TB/WP replacement.

His SWMBO told him :ArguingSmileys: you're not putting $3K into what is now a backup vehicle with 198K miles on it.

Owner asked Bruce if he knew anybody who might be interested in it, he would rather not junk it.

:ChinScratch: Lets see, it's around $250.00 for the TB/WP kit, and I don't mind using some "Boneyard" brake parts.

Owner stated brakes went to the floor when he was headed to the dealer for the TB/WP replacement.

Might be worth a look.

Wife said Thank You Dave. She's already feeling a bit better from the anti-biotics.

Day 120. No Buick pick-up today. Pinocchio says maybe Monday. Now waiting on a Park Assist module.

Buy it!  I could use an expert on Ridgelines.  Harry would be most appreciative too. :)

Bruce said it sounds like he's willing to give it to anyone willing to fix, and use it.

I'm an expert on how to break a finger while doing the TB/WP on these Honda 3.5 litre's.  <_<

We'll be taking a ride sometime this morning.

:ChinScratch: Ask them since they've replaced almost everything if you get a new radiator cap to go with it.
