I spent a lot of tine sanding.  Its  close and if the ring shrinks I may not need to sand anymore. It's close. Tomorrow I'll cut the outside of the ring.

Watching your build is and reading your commentary is very informative and, quite enjoyable.  Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this!

I'm just catching up on this, but I agree -- interesting construction.

I've got it now we're I can remove it from the work table. Had it tied up for two weeks. Gotta work backwards now.

If you notice I always have several projects going. Keeps me from getting bored..

I'm at a stand still for the moment deciding on whether it should have a cherry apron with walnut cup covers  or a walnut apron with cherry cup covers. Maybe  just a maple or birch apron...

Found one piece of 1/4 cherry 19x46. Not sure if it will be enough for the apron..

Back in the shop today trying to figure transition between levels. I guess I’ll cut out an “L” and add a 1/4 to the inside for the chip tray. I usually have my ducks lined up , but sometimes I get a rowdy one who doesn’t follow the line…

Finally getting back to the shop. My knee locked two weeks ago. After a week doctors operated and cut my Meniscus so I could straighten my leg.

That doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun. Hope your knee is now much improved.

I'll be looking into marine epoxy eventually.

This is how Pat DiBurro, famed New England luthier, says it:

• How do you get the glue into the crack?   I use marine-grade epoxy. The epoxy, I heat it to 150˚F and it becomes as thin as water.  No matter how tight the crack, it wicks right in.  I use West Systems clear marine epoxy.  #105 is the resin, #206 is the hardener, 5 to 1 ratio.

It’s very important to have the ratio as accurate as possible.  Ten years ago I bought a high quality microgram scale, and have since gone over to weighing the product.  Ambient temperature is also very important;  55˚F is the minimum I’ll work.

It doesn’t go all the  way through. It’s in the surface.

Note if the epoxy is volume to volume that is what you must use. If the resin and hardener are different wt/vol then weight will not get the proper mix.

That said I use volume but even then if you scrape the epoxy out be sure to get it all.

I’ll probably do what I always  do. Fine dust and glue. We had what I call hot sticks at Jakobe which were two part hot epoxy. I remember cutting into two pieces and mixing to putty into the crack. I try and find flaws before the finish, this one is minor. The more I sand the less you see, but I don’t want to sand that much.

im pretty sure I will use Red mahogany on the Cherry, I want to darken the Walnut,I  want to darken the walnut, but don’t want to lose the grain.

I show these flaws because I’m not perfect and  never meet a cabinet maker or furniture maker that was.,

it’s all about the illusion…
