June 27, 20224 yr Seems a lot of folks poo-poo the spriral head on a jointer, I am not one of them. It's a nice upgrade. Besides the nicer cutting action, you get reduced noise and (for me) rid of that massive headache called "setting the knives". They do seem to take more power, so lighter cuts or slower feed (or larger motor) may be needed.
June 27, 20224 yr Well, it's the morrow...barely. 02:30. After a bladder call, a return to sleep wasn't in the cards. Yesterday was a productive day of shop organization. The end is in sight. Today should see it mostly done. At least the power carving bench is fairly clear, as is the laser bench. Today, we'll tackle the wood pile and, rearrange the Shopsmiths. Then tomorrow, or if I'm lucky, this afternoon, I can open up the overhead, point all the fans toward the opening and use the leaf blower to blow everything off. Get to use my stash of usless Covid masks for that job. Maybe, by Wednesday, those Limbert tables can receive attention. Edited June 27, 20224 yr by Gene Howe

He swears by it. I'll bring a nice chunk of longleaf and ask about a dozen passes. After I help him clear his shop out for his move to Colorado.

By "spiral cutter" do you mean actual spiraled blades or, the one with the separate carbide cutters, arranged in a spiral?
June 27, 20224 yr I'm lost...are you upgrading a planer to the spiral? I thought it was the Rockwell jointer. BTW, it's perfectly normal for me to be lost in these conversations (or anywhere else, for the matter).

But the seller is selling me a decent chop saw for $35 and GIVING me a whole shelf of fresh solvents, stains, and finishes. Including a decent supply of Rubio Monocoat Pure. And I'm getting a bunch more wood. Who knows, he may give me his floor model drill press. Anything he does not sell and cannot take to Colorado. Edited June 27, 20224 yr by Woodman
