Friday again folks! 

 

Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" it's "Curb Shopping" season. 

 

Spent a couple of days getting the neighbors vans, and trailer ready.

2000 Express van needed a radio, oil change, plug wires. check.

New (2005 Express 3500) van needed rear brake pads and a rotor along with passenger side wheel speed sensor. check, still needs a radio. 

1994 Astro van needed better tires. check.

1995 G3500 needed a bit of welding to keep the rear doors aligned. check. (Side mounting posts rusted off at floor)

Trailer needed a taillight replaced. check.

 

 Now that that's all done, 

Let's go "Curb Shopping" 

 

 

 

I really wish I had a neighbor like you! If I can squeeze it in this afternoon, I'll be mowing the lawn, first time this year.

Another acronym is needed. OMTIAMT. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Curb pickings are slim around here so, I've resorted to Dumpster Diving. My DD forays have netted some good stuff. Most recent finds have included an all plastic shopping cart and an old high back swiveling "Executive" chair. The cart is handy for moving stuff from from one machine to the next. Or recently, plants from the truck to their holes. The chair's pleather was a bit frayed at the seat edge and on the arms but, Gorilla tape fixed that. 

Some earlier treasures  included an oval walnut  dining table top with two leaves and skirting. That's awaiting processing. Plus  all those pallets we used to panel a wall in the shop. Still got a stack of those boards I use for odds and ends.

Then, there's all those wood filing cabinets and other cabinets/dressers that we found at a salvage yard. Most became bases for work station benches.

I don't think we had to purchase any wood products in building out the shop. Other than the Formica covered MDF used for some work stations. I guess those could be loosely classed as wood.  

 

 

Weather may cooperate enough to get outside some.  Got some weeds needing sprayed.

Spent most of the afternoon yesterday harvesting sticks and small limbs from the wrath of winter winds. Still have a couple of areas to police. Also a couple larger limbs to reduce. Hope the Ryobi 18v chain saw is up to that task. Next is to get my auction purchase Craftsman wood chipper/shredder running and make some mulch. That's working with wood isn't it? May attempt mowing over the weekend. Regardless, plan to be out as much as possible after being in captivity the past 6-1/2 months.

 

Whatever y'all do, be careful, work safe and take time to enjoy a donut.

Cut 12 of these last night, then 4 more for a smaller set. Dry fit looks good. No fasteners, all joinery.. Will be a bathroom cabinet for friend's house.  Design is a picture of one she found online.

 Guess we're still "Two Weeks From Anywhere" near to having to do that.

Heck I'm not sure if I should rotate the yard equipment yet.

 After the earlier in the weeks wind storms, I get to start over.

Lovely! And what a shop! Mmmmmm, a real table saw.  And the luxury of amble storage space for more wood! 

 

Finally dragged a few tools to the porch to harvested what I could from this pricy 14" beam end. Before a neighbor "borrowed" it to hold up their car. Got two nice chunks, a couple small pieces, and a decent box of kindling. Will wait for a table saw before proceeding with further cutting. But a damp chilly dawn will hear the scrap crackling away.

 

 

 

 

 

Out rust hunting....slim pickings in some places....

 

Grape Vine tree was getting out of hand....Loppers to cut it back a bunch....hands are sore, now....

 

69 partly cloudy degrees outside....worked up a sweat, I did.....might TRY to dig the mower out of the shed.....maybe tomorrow, eh...don't want to rush things..

Very nice.  Getting into some hand tools.  I like that.

for us it's been good and bad. the good: we are prepping for our first outdoor craft show of the season to be held next weekend in the Chicago burb of Elmhurst. so it's busy times of build and sand the build and sand some more. this can also take our minds off the bad. My wife is facing a double mastectomy due to ductal carcinoma. We're still in the testing phases but am expecting surgery in about 2 weeks.

Went to a new pizza place called The Cleaners downtown with my son. Spent the afternoon getting things ready for woodturners meeting and picnic tomorrow.
