Carcasses are done. Now for the drawers and pull out shelving. There about 20 of them so it will be mass production for two or three days.

With all the stuff going on around here the pantry is moving slowly. I managed to get the sanding of everything done and all 300 pegs glued in on Sat and then yesterday put the first coat of finish on

  • Going to be a nice upgrade, Paul!   One note, from experience with built in Lazy Susan storage, if something falls off (and it will) it always lands at the farthest back corner.

You’re right about that Lew. I make my lazy Susan’s using Shaker pegs on the perimeter spaced about 2-2 1/2” apart. They look great and also give your fingers something to grab.  Paul

Glued up all the blanks for the actual drawers today. The drawer sides are a great way to use up all the little scraps. They make for very stable drawers. There are only five drawers but then there are 28 pull out shelves also.

Today was a lot of milling. All the large drawers are done and the components for the pull out shelving completed. Tomorrow will be lots of glue ups. After that it’s demo time for the old pantry.

Not a terribly productive weekend. We had lots of visitors. I did get about half of the pullout shelves sanded and glued up.

Whew. All the shelving is done. That was a very boring run. Except for gluing the pegs in on the lazy Susan’s all the components are done. Next it’s demo the old pantry. The maniac who did the finish on this place didn’t understand the concept of finding studs. The shelving ledgers are stapled to the drywall with hundreds of staples. When you try to get them off the wall large chunks of drywall break off with them. Oh well. Lots of patching.

Well it was a fairly long day of sanding but I will hopefully be done tomorrow. Then it’s time to start putting finish on. I think I have two veggie drawers to flex seal and then it’s all Watco.

I managed to get the sanding of everything done and all 300 pegs glued in on Sat and then yesterday put the first coat of finish on everything but the carcasses which will hopefully get done today. Tomorrow it’s head for the coast and install some of the teak work I have been doing and hopefully spend some time working on my boat.

Back from working on the boat and time to get the pantry moving forward. The next step is to get all the drawers installed. I discovered my drawer slide jig had finally seen it’s day so I took the afternoon to build a new one. Tomorrow I’ll start installing.

I love that contrasting band on the front edges of the cabinets Paul

Looks like a busy day or two is in store Paul.

Mahogany on maple is one of our favorite combinations. The drawer fronts will also be mahogany. The plan as I have been told is a routered in oval to make a mahogany pull showing the maple behind   .

I got about 80% installed today before the body temple said enough. Tomorrow is another day!

Great progress Paul. Looks great.

So there will be drawer faces.  Sweet Paul, and lucky you :)

My wife feels the need to "reorganize" - or at least to rearrange everything at least once a month...  I would have to allocate at least 15 minutes search time every time I wanted something from the pantry!
