April 10, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Sunday Morning..in the shop.. Last two legs need done..layouts.. Additional markings? "L" for long apron, "S" for the short apron...move this back into the jig.. Getting a bit chippy, try a dry fit... Then repeat for the short apron. . Almost there, pared the gap away,,set this leg aside.. And repeat for the 4th leg,,,Stick was cut to length, and a tail added... Will get back to this in a bit...decided to glue the 2 ends up...less work than trying to glue the entire mess at once...just a few sub-assemblies.. 2 clamps? One above and one below the tenon,,,let these sit a while...back to that dovetail.. This is the top of the long aprons, with a center line across both aprons...Chopping sockets for the tails to call home.. While they started out in the jig, I had to move them to the vise, and finish each separately ....might as well glue this up, too.. Added the c clamps.. To keep the tail down in the socket... Need to run to Lowes in a bit...need a chunk of 1 x 2 Pine...to make the corner blocks....they pull a base into square at the legs, and provide a place for a slot...for the screws to attach the top,,,,speaking of which.. Almost time for a trim? Stay tuned...might try again later today...
April 12, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Got the corner blocks made.. New drill bit to drill some holes.. Then glue, clamps and screws... With a little "mallet assist"...let this sit a spell.. Table's top... . Found a high spot, or 2.... Ends were a bit ragged.. That battery is from a circular saw...trimmed both ends square.. Because I needed a good edge for the router.... Tongues for the Bread Board ends to get fastened to.. And let this sit a day, too.... Stay tuned
April 13, 20224 yr Popular Post OK Bandit, don't take this personal or get into a panic tizzy, BUT, there are 17 days left in April...SLOW DOWN!!!
April 13, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Late night, Laundry Detail....needed something to pass the time, and save one round trip on the stairs.. Well, it seems these 2 got used for a bit... Left a mess, they did.....results? Moxxon who? Edges have been jointed to match the Bread Board ends...gaps filled in...Bread boards each have a pair of screws coming up from the underside....Clothes were dry ( about 0200) and that was it for the night ( morning?) May get out another router, later..( why change bits, just change routers, right Norm?) after I decide on the corner details... Stay tuned...
April 13, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Today being "The Camel's Day" decided to get something done. Had one router to put away.. DeWalt No.610....Also needed to put away a circular saw... And get the battery back into the charger. Square, sharp corners had to go...got out the "High Tech Circle"jig.. Then set up a vintage tool to make these cuts..once all the cob webs were removed.. IF a tool is older than I am...does that make it "Vintage"? Once the rough is done, the beltsander will clean up.. Then yet another router came out.. Had the bit I needed for the bottom edges .. Flip the top over, reset the router with another bit.. Then put this router away...dig out a special drill.. I drill straight down, then tilt the drill forwards and backwards, to make a slot.. Allows the wood to move a bit despite being screwed in place...a single hole in the stretcher will do, no slot needed.. 5 screws total...we are now together....1st coat of Amber Shellac coming up... Waiting to flip this over, and shellac the top....those white tabs? Are Foot Pads...just nail on... That will do for today...having an ICE COLD Yuengling Lager...to cool ME down Stay tuned...

April 14, 20224 yr Author Popular Post First coat on the table's top.. Looks like I might have missed a spot, maybe...second coat should take care of that... Will try again tomorrow... And see how it looks, then... Stay tuned..
April 15, 20224 yr Popular Post That is beautiful Steven! If it is destined to be a plant stand, is shellac the best choice for a finish? Or do you plan to add another finish on top of the shellac?
April 15, 20224 yr Author Going to try a top coat, later....have to scrub the shellac a bit, first.....will try on the underside, first...
