October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Friday again. Where the heck did the week go? Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we spent a couple of days calling the power company complaining about flickering lights, and the power cutting out. Tech finally showed up yesterday and after I expained what was happenning and at first he tried blaming it on our house wiring, then decided it sounded like a floating neutral lead. He put new crimp connectors at both the pole and house. So far not a single flicker or cut out. Cost me my lab grade surge suppresor. It let out it's "Magic Smoke". Still trying to get yard ready for winter, working around the weather. Where was this rain when we needed it? One weather man said to have the shovels/snow blowers ready for sometime next week. They're still grinding the road out front, don't think they're going to beat the weather which will make for some fun getting in/out of our driveway. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Some of the winter prep going on here as well. Today will go get 2 posts for my mailbox snow guard. Last year I used some that were too light (painfully proven) this year I'll get some heavier chain link fence posts.
October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Busy couple of weeks with the seniors in our family, hoping this settles down with help from other family members. Was able to get some yard work done earlier this week. Hope to finish cleaning up the shop this weekend so I can build the 4 shelves I need to finish my kitchen project.
October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post The SCMS table is finished.Planning out the SCMS DC system and, prepping for the next Melamine counter (36X60) for the laser. The organization tasks are ongoing. May never be able to call that job complete.
October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post I've got some rough turning that I need to do. The bowl blanks have been giving me the stink eye when I go out to the shop......"turn me". Took a request for a commissioned bowl. Customer is sending me a hunk of monkeypod. My niece asked for a small box as well. I've spent some time working in LightBurn to become more familiar with the laser engraving process. I can see that I still have lots to learn about this. This is the burn path of a logo idea. .40
October 22, 20214 yr Still preparing for relatives, the honey-do list seems to be getting longer rather than shorter???? @Gunny nice looking doors on that cabinet!! @forty_caliber I've read about LightBurn but have no experience with it. @Gene Howe also mentioned it as well as "InkScape" for laser work.
October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Hey guys. Go here for excellent lightburn and other laser instructions. https://www.youtube.com/c/thelouisianahobbyguy/videos

October 22, 20214 yr Popular Post Need a lid re-done....otherwise....as little as I can get away with...even less IF they let me....
October 23, 20214 yr Popular Post The laser engraver came in earlier than expected. Otur made some improvements since the YT reviews were made. Instead of the laser being bolted to the arm, there is now a dovetail mount that allows for easy height adjustment. Also included is a bit of aluminum rod that is cut to the correct focal length. With these together getting a spot on focus is pretty easy. Test burn on cardboard. .40

I think this will be easier to use for the specific application of engraving the bottoms of bowls than a full bed model due to the overhanging gantry. I purchased the 20W version. Since the power output is variable by software, better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. .40
October 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Spent some time setting up the laser engraver as a shop fixture. Oak base with tongue that rides in the mitre gauge slot. Good height adjustment using the Shop Smith tables. Stable. .40
October 23, 20214 yr Popular Post @forty_caliber Hope you continue to give us updates on your progress. Curious, you said it came quicker than expected. Did you buy directly from Ortur?

Did you buy directly from Ortur? I did order direct fro Ortur. After completing the order they emailed a China Post tracking number. Given the current supply chain nightmare, I settled in for a long wait. Showed up on my doorstep in 3 days. They must have a warehouse here in the States. .40
October 24, 20214 yr Popular Post If she continues to sit in her recliner, I will relocate the TV antennae tomorrow. Then I hope to do some assembly of the tank engine.
