Popular Post DuckSoup
I planned on remodeling the kitchen a year ago January but was informed that our Goddaughter's wedding was in April and Patti was baking the cookies for the cookie table. 2020 being what it was scraped the wedding plans. Decided to redo the first floor bathroom instead. Me personally I wanted to eliminate it and use the space in the kitchen but with family members getting older we have the need so it stays. Original owners paneled this room and covered a window in the back wall and then build a closet on that wall. When looking at the back of the house you'll see two windows & a door, more than once the missing window came up in conversation. We decided to make a true water closet and use the extra space and window in the kitchen. The window next to the closet was removed. Upper shelf held more games that it was rated for. I cut the wall into the kitchen to give her the feel of what 40 sq. ft. of additional space could feel like. Insulated and temporary wall cover since June. Removed the door jam instead of the frig door. Moving forward to 2021 and we are ready to start fresh. Removed all the underlayment & flooring. Back of the house faces west & door leads to enclosed back porch. We use it more for a pantry and rarely went out the back door, side door was easier. After several days we are at our goal and an empty room. Start new framing next week. Gunny, lew, Artie and 5 others

At this point the only cookies I'm seeing are coming from the Girl scouts. Stove is disconnected so dinner has been salads, rotisserie chickens & take-out. 12 hours ago, Gunny said: +1 I too am interested in this cookie table.. It's a regional thing at weddings. The wife gathers 10 known cookie makers and they as a group decide who, what & how many cookies are to be made. Whoever makes the best clothespin cookies or fold-overs or pizzelles etc. is tasked with making 15 dozen of her best. As I understand the formula, it's 8 cookies per 2/3 of your guest at the reception+ 1/3 more for guest to take home at the end of the reception. At our youngest daughters wedding there were close to 2800 cookies made and stored in a cooler the Saturday before the wedding. Tables are refilled throughout the night. 11 hours ago, lew said: Looks like some knob and post wiring in the one picture Found that last year during the bath redo, abandoned on both ends. A million bucks, payable in the sum of $1.00 a year for a million years. Fortunately the wall that needs to be built out is only 10'. Buying a 2x8 and ripping it in half is cheaper than buying two 2x4's. The 4 ceiling joist I'll need were salvaged from the wall that I removed between the kitchen & porch. The studs are the same as the joist and measure 1 3/4" x 3 3/4". We removed one layer of cement board and 3 layers of plaster from the kitchen ceiling and there was no sag so I figure these should hold a layer 5/8" green board. Underlayment, I've seen as high as 21.00 a sheet, is going to hurt. p_toad, Cal, FlGatorwood and 3 others 4 1

Popular Post DuckSoup
Received instructions & the ok from CID Wednesday to remove the last of the door frames & studs and install a new header. I toenailed (4) 3" screws through the studs and into the second floor floor joist & then a temporary 2x8 to eliminate any movement in the studs. Cut the studs, install the header & jacks and we are moving on. I'll need to bring the old porch floor level with the rest of the kitchen. DuckSoup
In between family duties & yard work last week I was able to install a new circuit & outlet in the back bedroom and cut up the extension cords that the LOML likes to use. Cut in a outdoor vent for the hood above the stove & cleaned up a couple of loose ends left from demo. Moved on to rearranging 2 windows and buying 1 new. The window that was in the closet needed replaced. The window above the sink needed to be raised to eliminate the horizontal divide that I had to either look over or under. The third window is a 2'x3' awning type window on the south wall of what was the enclosed porch, this will be the window I buy. Demo the closet window and relocated the sink window in its place at my preferred height. Relocated the 2'x3' south window above the sink at a height that is good for both of us. Ordered a new 3'x4' window for the south wall to take full advantage of the southern sun during the winter baking season. Popular Post DuckSoup
Don't know were the month of May went but here I am well into the month of June. Rough-in wiring is 95% complete and walls & ceiling are insulated. Hauled in 17 sheets of drywall yesterday, hope to be ready for mud & tape by next weekend. Time to frame in the backdoor and finish the electrical & insulation. Will need to build a soffit along the small green wall for the hood vent & LED lights.
