It's gonna be a little skimpy this week. We have been nursing a sick fur-baby who decide to get his minerals from some fairly good sized stones. Surgery was required.

Please don't forget the there are only about 3 weeks left to get in on this years fundraiser/raffle. There have been some anonymous donors of additional prizes. It would be a shame to miss out!

Our Patriot Turners-

@AndrewB is our top winner this week for the most activity. He has been adding to his turning accessories and providing us with reviews along the way.

Andrew is trying out some of the Easy Wood Tools Easy Start products ( @Jim from Easy Wood Tools )-

We had a great conversation on them and their use-

Over the years, I have found that my eyes and memory aren't what they used to be. I must physically measure everything and write it down before heading the the Borg. Andrew experienced something similar with a recent order- to which I can completely sympathize-

Andrew posted a picture of one of his first bowls, but felt it was a failure. I don't know about you but I would never have had the courage to post a picture of my first bowl! Anytime you learn from a project, it is not a failure!

His post generated a great conversation about techniques and tools.

Andrew received some really nice turning blanks. This one became a bowl. His turning skills are certainly coming along!

Another great back and forth took place in this post. Lots of techniques were discussed-

Although this was posted in the Finishing Forum, it applies equally well here in the Turners area-

Finally, Andrew started this project-

Check out his addition of the Jacobs chuck

The Woodworker's Journal posted a very nice video demonstrating turning an large platter on an awesome Laguna lathe. Laguna has been such an important part of our site and has supplied some fantastic prizes for our raffles and fundraisers.

They told me it was "wild cherry". I need to get it broken down into bowl blanks and sealed.

Lots going on in the turning forum lately.  Good stuff!!

Yea I agree I think I’m actually subscribed to Carl on YouTube I don’t remember I watch quite a lot.  He puts out some pretty decent videos.  I try to watch multiple turning videos to try and get some ideas.

Thanks for the updates Lew. Looking forward to binging on the AAW Virtual Symposium Got the link today

As always, I watched the videos and learned a bunch again.  Only if my half brain cell will properly file it and know how to retrieve it.  :D  And, I learned that I can't afford a CBN wheel.  Talk about sticker shock.  Thank you, Lew.  Wednesday always slip up on me.  Just about to finish 16 pens all made of elm.  This was a block of wood from MountainGuardian, I think.  I don't see him on the forums anymore and I need to verify his address.  And, I have other turnings to get to soon.  Thanks, Lew, for the knowledge and encouragement.

Lew, I would get to that wild cherry split soon and remove that pith.  I see it already checking.  I have some pear that cracked down the middle right after I cut off the wood that I wanted to make rolling pins.  I'll get a picture up.

No worries.  Looks like the negative rake cutters will be here either Monday or Tuesday so we shall see if those pan out better.  If they do I'll be using those more often rather than the regular cutters.  Small side note I did pick up a pen turning kit as well.  So we shall see how well that goes.

I'm with @FlGatorwood about those CBN wheels :JawDrop:.

Guess I'll have to stick with the "Old School" wheels etc..

I've been going through boxes of stuff I've had stashed, wondering when/where I got some of the "Goodies" I've been finding.  Of course I'm finding everything but what I'm looking for :Tapping: .
