May 9, 20206 yr Popular Post Ok...got to thinking Dangerous I know. Seems I have a stack of thin Pine scraps....and need to do something with them... A couple of my block planes do have a box to call home....keeps them out of mischief and a bit cleaner... But...I think I can do a little better than just a labeled cardboard box... Most of the Pine scaps are about 1/4" thick, if that......maybe connect a few into the proper sized box, including the "lid" That can slide down over the box....maybe use a sharpie to make a "label" on the end of the lid........thinking finger joints....green, or black sharpie? Will see how the bod feels today...and see how the wood "supply" looks....may have to resaw to get enough "timber" to make the boxes and lids... Stay tuned..
May 9, 20206 yr Popular Post Lookin' forward to seeing what you come up with! I wouldn't need a very big box- I only have one block plane Edited May 9, 20206 yr by lew

May 9, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Resaw has been done, for now...wider stuff... For the "cover" and bottoms...narrower stuff.. To make the inner box....5 parts ready.. Sized to that box....to make the inner box...ends.. Match the ends of the old box...the rest? A plywood bottom, and the sides...Just need me to feel well enough to cut the corner joints, and build the cover. Parts are 1/4" thick....was ripping them down from the 3/4" scraps I have in the shop.....still have a decent stack to do...also have a big stack of 3/16" thick stuff...get 2 @ 1/4" and 1 @ 3/16" out of each scrap board...have 14 Block Planes to do...this MIGHT take a while..maybe?

May 10, 20206 yr Author Popular Post At 2 hours a day....this might take a while....Knee is NOT liking the stairs to the shop. First, had to plane a couple parts flat.. ( new pencil?)..then see if two sides will match up.. Marking gauge to score a few lines.... Saw a few lines.... Chop out the waste...wash, rinse, and repeat....using the completed finger to mark the next part... Get enough done to do a dry fit...get the last end done and fitted......then the fun... Diagonal clamp because the sides wanted to just fold flat....Bottom of the box is also glued on... "Need more clamps!" Let this mess sit a day ( don't sneeze if you walk by..)and laid out parts for tomorrow.. To make the lid. Thinking I may use a wider chisel to space the fingers better...stay tuned..

May 10, 20206 yr Popular Post Looks like my small box glue ups. Funny three will do a large box ok maybe 4. But a small one just won't hold all the clamps it needs. By the way can't believe you cut those small joints by hand. I have done on the TS and have a jig for making them but have never used it.
May 11, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Box came out of the clamps...meh Edges sanded smooth, corners rounded over.. Problems came when I tried to place a lane IN the box... Either too long in the back end, or. . Both ends...dug around, and found ONE block plane that would fit.. IF I moved the cap iron forward....as it stuck up too high, otherwise. I uess that will just have to do So, gave it a coat of the "Brew" Set the little #110 back in the box.. And set about cutting lid parts to size, length-wise, on the #358 mitre box. Unloaded the washer into the dryer, and hobbled back upstairs... And that was it for today. Doctor's appointment tomorrow morning, to see how things are healing up.... Stay tuned

May 12, 20206 yr Popular Post I had an x-ray of my head as a teenager. Doc told us nothing there. My Mother inquired if she had to pay for the x-ray. Said she already knew that.

May 13, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Ok....MRI tomorrow morning of the right knee.... Hour and a half in the shop, tonight....after an nap in my computer chair used a wider chisel... Made a lot of saw cuts... 1/4" wide chisel to chop...test fit? Maybe the other 3 corners will be better?.... Then glued them up....I made sure it will fit over the bottom box...waiting on glue to dry... Tomorrow, I can trim the lid for height, and add the topper. Then start on the next box and lid Stay tuned...
