Popular Post FlGatorwood Posted January 16, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted January 16, 2020 Steven, try to enjoy the massage. Wife had one and passed it. It dissolved on its own. But, the men that I know who had one had some serious pain. Good job on the wood prep, but I am sorry that you have that stone. Don't forget to make a box to keep it in. Popular Post steven newman Posted January 17, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 17, 2020 Start time today, 1520 hrs....hang the apron up..at 1820 hrs... Welcome to my world.... Put a few toys away....and set out the toys for dovetail work...joy, joy.... We have a plan... Need to join these pieces together.... A bit of handsaw work... Mr. Witherby to chop the waste... First corner done...hate doing tails first... back 2 corners are done,,,getting a little better.. Front two corners done...opening is for the drawer...clamped this up as a dry fit... Resawed the base, for width, and thickness...at 3/4" thick Tablesaw can't reach to the middle of 5-1/2"....had to bandsaw the center out...still laying over on the bandsaw....will need planed down to 11/16" final thickness.. Next up? Have a few grooves to plough...THEN I can glue the box up, with the floor board for the upper compartment. Right side is getting a bit too sore to do mucg more, tonight...maybe try again, tomorrow, to get something done? Stay tuned Artie, Gunny, Harry Brink and 6 others 9 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted January 17, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 17, 2020 Laundry Detail, today..plus one hour IN the shop...plan was to mill a few grooves, tricky one first.. This one, because it sets the height for the other grooves This one was easy to set up....getting the next one was a Pulled from the wrong direction. got that fixed. Using a plywood floor.. Had to cut it to fit. Rest of the grooves meant a change to the fence on the Stanley 45...from right next to the cutter to... Good thing those are the long rods...Dry fit, once the floor was the right size....second time's a charm... What you will see, when you open the lid, and... The underside, just the drawer will see this....then some glue, and a forest of clamps... Check for square? Close enough....set this aside, for now...have a base to plane down... One corner was so bad, had to run this through again....then a #4 sized plane... Both faces needed planed.....finally.. I think that will do...Also planed the blanks for the back and sides of the drawer... Had to stop, unload the washer...load that into the dryer....and then sweep up the mess on the floor... Have to wait on glue to dry. And, fine the wrench to the router...base gets a round-over.... Was getting sore, and crampy...called it a day. Stay tuned... Cal, Gunny, p_toad and 6 others 9 Quote
Popular Post Gunny Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted January 17, 2020 You needed at least 3 more clamps on that glue up. You know just to be sure. FlGatorwood, Gene Howe, steven newman and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted January 18, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 18, 2020 Always a good sign...when the clamps come off...nothing flies apart Clean up all four corners, and the top and bottom edges.. . Planes plus the sanders..., trying NOT to break out the ends... Well, that WAS the plan... As for that base? Base is 1/2" thick, yet I needed to do a round-over from both sides? Well, you start with a plane, of course. Do the end grain first....sandpaper to smooth it over...then.. You do the long grain edges. I also marked where the box will sit on the base, so I didn't round-over too much. Test fit.. Will fix them tear-outs later. Sellers glued the box to the base...I guess I should do the same? Spread a bead around the bottom edge of the box. Used the vise as a third hand, to start the clamping.. There was an extra clamp needed.. To correct a little "toe-out". Seems things spread out a bit, where the box meets the base. Letting this sit a while...might see about a lid, and start on the drawer....trying to stay with Paul Sellers' Masterclass videos, on how he built his. Stay tuned... p_toad, Cal, HARO50 and 6 others 9 Quote
steven newman Posted January 20, 2020 Author Report Posted January 20, 2020 Road trip to a friend's shop over in Columbus,OH....hauled the remaining 7 planks.....seems he has a Powermatic planer he likes to use...Made a large pile of Ash Mulch...love the smell... This morning..woke up with both Uncles Charles cramping everything..AND a Migraine headache, to boot....kind of wiped out the day...May see about tomorrow? Gunny, Cal, p_toad and 3 others 3 3 Quote

Popular Post Gene Howe Posted January 20, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted January 20, 2020 Holiday? Haven't had one in 18 years. Even before that, holidays and, most weekends were paperwork days. steven newman Posted January 20, 2020 Author Report Posted January 20, 2020 Uncle Charlie hit about everything he could....Migraine took care of the non-crampable spots...BP decided to spike....just about wiped out the entire day.... Clamps came off the box this morning, was too hateful. Trying to decide on a blank for the lid...have 3 boards to decide on.. Number 1... Might be too fancy a grain for the box...a bit wavy lengthwise, and a knot or 2... Number 2.. Cut about here....6-1/2" wide, only need 5-1/2" wide....and.. Number 3.. Would have to see where the straight edge goes, and see about the width....depends on how much work I want to do... If the leg will just stop with the cramps.....I might get the lid done, today.... Stay tuned.. Harry Brink, Artie, FlGatorwood and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted January 21, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 21, 2020 Long fight..got a little done, today... D-8 Cross cut saw...trying to cut square to the box's bottom....one problem.. Don't look very square, do it? Planed one edge to the line...tablesaw to rip to the other line... NOW it be square....need the edges rounded over, and a rebate made.. Rebates done with the #78, round-overs roughed in with a router, then finished up with the #3 plane. Why the rebates, one is for the hinges in the back.. To clear the barrel of the hinges, the other three are just to match the first rebate...needs a bit of room.. To clear that barrel...hinges aren't all that big.. Have a problem to fix..later.. Have some holes to fill....I did get the drawer parts worked on.. Took a while, to get them all to fit in there...sides were the worst. Dovetails? Hate doing tails first..always sloppy... Hmm..fixable...Back was cut to size, after the groove for the bottom was milled...needed the height and the length for the back...Bottom needed planed to fit into the grooves,,,was FINALLY able to spread some glue, and a few clamps.. Let this sit a day...then clean it up and fit it to the box... Stay tuned... FlGatorwood, Artie, HARO50 and 2 others 5 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted January 21, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 21, 2020 Well, got the front of the box fixed.. Will just have to do Hinges were installed....not my type of job I like to do.. This is what Sellers calls out for...meh.. Drawer is out of the clamps, cleaned up and a fitting began,,,, Top of drawer needed a shim glued on....then nailed down...going to be one of them days....while trying to level the bottom edges of the drawer...heard a "CRACK" Now I had to wait on more glue to dry... When this dries, I'll have to sand it smooth, and try again...at least there is a handle I can pull on, if the drawer sticks.. Got tired of fighting things...a pen just happened to roll out into my way...was soon on it's way to parts unseen...was that kind of a day..time to stop. Stay tuned, close to the finish line, now Artie, HARO50, Harry Brink and 3 others 6 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted January 22, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 22, 2020 Roh Kay...nothing from the Kidney Doctor....stone is not the problem....been referred back to Family Doctor....Still HURTS like I was kicked in the side.. Drawer has been "de-clamped" and leveled.. Just used a smaller plane, is all..test fit? When you slide a drawer shut, and all the dust inside comes whooshing out in a cloud..tis almost a piston fit... Will call this a PIP... All sanded down awaiting a coat of stain, and some shellac....except... There isn't enough stain left in the can, to even do the front of the drawer..grrrrrr Went out to the Blue BORG, and bought a new can, tonight...maybe tomorrow I can finish this thing... Stay tuned..
