Yea, just about the time you fall asleep they come wake you up to give you a sleeping pill. ...

For me, they stopped by at 4 am for some blood work, then discovered I needed more blood work at 7, so she called someone and told her they could do both at 7 and I could just go back to sleep (!?)

Another time, the respiratory therapist woke me at 3 and told me to breathe into the little thing he left when I got up in the morning.   Geez.   Let me go home and get rest!

Take care of yourself, Steve.

Spent about an hour in the shop, this morning....panel for the table's top is out of the clamps,  planed and sanded... This is going to be the underside..there is a bit of a chip-out....

  • Nice work, but I suspect longer than 1 hour.     On another note I was speaking with a customer about using a hand plane and my struggle with the pins in my wrist and arm not liking it.  See

I had a heart cath about 9 years ago, the stress test I did indicated a problem....then the heart cath came back completely clean; no blockage at all. It wasn't a bad procedure as discomfort goes and it's a good way to know what's really going on. Recovery did take a few days, as I  recall. Best to you on the test!

Well,  a few days of no real restrictions, until the 4th of December.....decided on a plan, of sorts.   Maybe one hour a day, with a single task to do each day....then rest up.   Instead of total hand tool operations....will use a few machines, less stress on me, that way.

Decided to haul that plank to the shop.....took my time...and laid it into the bench's end vise.   Too long to just stand up in a corner, somewhere.  Marked out for three crosscuts @ 18" long.

Circular saw? nah, too heavy.   Tablesaw..board too long, hard to hold and push, danger of the board binding and being thrown back at me...so...

814783525_ShakerTableProjecthandsaw.JPG.bab2f935ae4a4a6843358a973b237423.JPG

26" long.  Freshly sharpened and set, 11 ppi...Disston D-8   If I use the entire length each stroke,  I can go as fast or slow as I feel able to do.   One edge of the blanks were very wavy, though the other edge was almost straight....Use a big, heavy jointer plane?   Nope.   I can use this instead..

903136175_ShakerTableProjectre-saw1.JPG.4d013665c83be1d27b92d6dd5197de7b.JPG

Run each blank through, with the almost straight edge against the fence.    Removes the waves.    Reset the fence a hair, and hold the freshly sawn edge against the fence.....one more adjust, to do the first edge.   Then clamp all three blanks up...

961360707_ShakerTableProjectblanksforthetop.JPG.bf51d9e1c9eaabb297b38412d958ae8c.JPG

And let this sit a day or two.   Might work on the edges a bit, to get these ready to glue into a panel....but not right away...end grain view?

1977421354_ShakerTableProjectendgrain.JPG.a903b7b606bbbb5845c1d08b95b12d07.JPG

Looks like this is 1/4 sawn?   Face grain?

684195118_ShakerTableProjectfacegrain.JPG.a0bf5d4a9cd45fb5fbe81272d8acb252.JPG

Hmm, might be interesting?   Blanks are a hair over 4/4" thick.   Need to skinny them down to 3/4" thick.   Thickness is not really consistant, either...some spots thicker than others...may fix that...

We have ways....Reset the tablesaw fence( a couple time?) and raise the blade all the way up.   ( check that it is 90 degree to the table) Run the blanks through, all the way around the edges.   Blade can't reach the middle of the 5-1/2" width.....

1602458041_ShakerTableProjectre-saw2.JPG.7317f73c3e9934698c47cf60d626e2b1.JPG

I can use either the handsaw, or clean off the bandsaw...and just follow the kerf.   May need to plane the leftovers a bit.   Get rid of the worst areas, reset the fence to 3/4", and repeat the rest of the steps...then let the blanks sit a day, again.   Clamped together, of course.   I did dig out the "leftovers" from the DVD Cabinet build...

1529859831_ShakerTableProjectapronblanks1.JPG.36423700f84358e2d02be4be2a436d4d.JPG

These are already 3/4" thick.   I can use one as a set-up guide.   These two will help make the table's aprons.   Leaves more stock to make leg blanks with, as they will be a glue up....maybe 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" square?   Yes, they will get tapered, Lew.

So, today's schedule?   Resaw the blanks for the top....should take about an hour to do....then see what to set up for tomorrow's shop hour...

Ok, which is easier to watch?    My shoptime, or that mess in Congress?  Stay tuned...

Your one hour project is making me tired :) Please don’t overdo it.

Even put in some overtime, today.....1500hrs to 1615hrs....Almost did too much.   Caught myself, and did things a bit differently.  B)

Tablesaw work was the main item, today...:ChinScratch:

465998408_ShakerTableProjectsawsetup1.JPG.a0f914bb55f036b7139f8459bc43c8c2.JPG

Run the blade up as high as it could go....

79679481_ShakerTableProjectthinneddown.JPG.3be24b10c7746c07dbf5a721dd15f377.JPG

Wasn't quite high enough..:BangingHead:..tried the bandsaw...to remove the waste..:ArguingSmileys:

293037056_ShakerTableProjectbandsawmess.JPG.0e6d92c2a164240ad9f312cf3bd32bea.JPG

With a brand new blade, too..:BangingHead:..now the part where I almost did too much...

35637792_ShakerTableProjectcleanedup.JPG.a67758429cac3de4b7c4b2f17cb7bd16.JPG

After one board of using the planes....thought there had to be a better way.:WonderScratch:...reset the fence and saw blade...set to rip the non-burnt area off the two good areas...set all 9 aside

Reset the blade and fence...fence to exactly 3/4" away from the blade...run the blade all the way up...run all 9 blanks through on edge...buzzed all to 3/4" thick...all I had to do was just push each stick through....cleaned up the rough spots, and the burnt spots....then clamped the stack together....B)

1593393119_ShakerTableProjectquittingtime.JPG.f51c14a112677d0d6e8a8144121d8cba.JPG

And let these rest for a day, or so.....then lay them all out, sort until a decent looking pattern shows up....and try a glue-up...tomorrow. :ChinScratch:

So, now I am on "break" until tomorrow's session..:Tapping:..anyone want to stop by and help out?   :OldManSmiley:

Hope there is enough leftovers, to add a bread board edge...stay tuned :cowboy:( legs will be next, also as a glue up...need to figure out how tall the table will be..)

Don't forget the 15 minutes of "Overtime".....:JawDrop:

May try the glue up, about Lunch time....have to find a spot big and flat enough to lay the parts all out, and arrange them according to the best grain match....may take the time to clear off the top of the tablesaw..:ChinScratch: Then the cussing can begin :ArguingSmileys:..seems to help the glue and clamp process....:DevilLaughing:

Grab a bit of plywood, and the nine slats..and try a sorting....:ChinScratch:

Haven't decided IF this is the "show side"  or not..:WonderScratch:..rotated to allow for the glue to be spread ...

Double cauls, to try to keep the panel flat..at least on the ends...:ChinScratch:

Intend to let this..and me...sit a day...B)

Today's 1 hour shop time...:WonderScratch:

1177300466_ShakerTableProjecttopoutofclamps.JPG.c35932e1fa5fdd2ff38f10a06e708c74.JPG

Got most of the clamps off the blank for the table's top....clean up, aisle 1:rolleyes:

Tablesaw was a mess at the end of the hour...:JawDrop:

562339603_ShakerTableProjecttablesawmess.JPG.e5ea17d0adf004676c0191089c9fe8c2.JPG

Lots of rip cuts, a few cross cuts...ran out of Ash....had enough milled, for 3 legs :ChinScratch:

677360852_ShakerTableProjectlegblanks12.JPG.98bf8bdf5fc4c311031635483f34e62c.JPG

Glued up 2 pieces to make one leg....went from a very wavy 4/4 x 2"  down to 3/4" x 1-5/8".....thinking these are about ~ 20" long..:WonderScratch:

746746178_ShakerTableProjectlegblank3.JPG.02f136775a4b0ff094243ce7626279bb.JPG

Leg #3...needed a helping hand.   Since these will get tapered on two sides....can rip the worse sections off...trying to match the grain...so when cleaned up, they look like solid legs..

Looks like a trip over to the Quincy, OH area, and buy another stick or two of Ash....Monday...:WonderScratch:

Ok...hauled ONE 5' long plank to the shop.:OldManSmiley:   Cut it into thirds.  Cross cut was with the Atkins No.65, again.....cuts like new.  Then came the tablesaw ( both of my rip saws are at the sharpening service)

Needed 2 blanks than matched each other for grain...and glue and clamp them up..

630418104_ShakerTableProject4thlegglueup.JPG.8715675ea924d1d594026153f41485ed.JPG

Ooops.  :BangingHead: I also ripped two blanks for the bread board ends..

1965493914_ShakerTableProjectbreadboardblanks.JPG.aaf04022ff5f3c794fef1f586239e167.JPG

Then trimmed them to length..and stashed them away..

What was left of the plank..went towards a stash of aprons...

1442709743_ShakerTableProject1st3legs.JPG.aafa245679bae8197d770b4fb3385d61.JPG

And then ganged them up, and squared the ends, both ends...B)

Once the bench is cleared off, I can work on all four legs.....clean the glue joints, and taper two sides....:ChinScratch:

Didn't even keep track of the time.  :WonderScratch:

Stay tuned :cowboy:

Exactly,

Section 6 paragraph 8 subsection "B"

At no time will Overtime be authorized unless a request is filled out in blood, triplicate copies made, lost, queried over, buried in peat moss for 6 months and finally resubmitted with an attached note from your Mother.

But, everytime I go to the shop....I charge by the hour.....whether I'm there 15 minutes, or one hour....like some get for doing a "Service Call"....

Wasn't up to running the handplanes today.....may try tomorrow...BP  is the one controlling the length of time in the shop...
