July 3, 20232 yr 4th will be relatively quiet here. We will be able to watch the aerial displays from the small community about 6 miles NE of us. We've been doing that for nearly 50 years. More difficult to see some as trees have grown a bit during that time. The recent rains saved our annual family fireworks display so we're planning that for tomorrow night, weather permitting, since everyone but me has a job to report to on the 5th. We'll do the usual cookout prior, burgers, dogs, braughts on the grill along with potato, pea and macaroni salads. Desserts will be a choice of strawberries over angel food cake, whipped cream optional, watermelon and I think Marie Callender has made a couple of special pies just for us. Grandsons will do their normal celebration of "poppers", smoke bombs, sparklers etc. in the road prior to dark then move to the open acre of our property where SIL and daughter will run the aerial displays. We can launch into the adjacent soybean fields. Tomorrow, I'll get the lawn chairs and cement board scraps moved in place for the launch site. Usually have enough for about an hour. To all my friends here, have a blessed and safe 4th of July. In spite of all our warts, shortcomings and yes even dysfunctions as a country, we remain a great nation. To all who have served to provide the freedoms we (I) enjoy, God Bless You and God Bless America.
July 3, 20232 yr Julie's family in the area will be coming for dogs & burgers and fixings in the afternoon. That includes two young hell raisers (ages 5 & 6). Typically a gathering like this would include a lot of outdoor time. It's been so oppressively hot and humid lately that I'm sure everyone will want to hang out inside... That could change if it were to remain cloudy tomorrow
July 3, 20232 yr Popular Post One thing is certain, we won't be out and about tomorrow. Some drivers around here are dangerous enough when they're sober. We'll spend the fourth at home, consoling our pup who hates fireworks and thunder.

The city has also been buying a bunch of older buildings so maybe they ran out of money to celebrate the Fourth for our citizens. Just sayin'......

July 5, 20232 yr Interesting read. Seems things haven't changed much. Always those that will major on the minors and minor on the majors. What's important is what they came together and achieved versus the exact date to which it occurred. I'm good with the 4th. Just my $.02 and simple education.

July 3, 20241 yr I'll be in bed by 9 or so, Marie will be up with the dog so he can snuggle up to her. We may be having thunderstorms so it might be a non issue for the dog. Edited July 3, 20241 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

July 4, 20241 yr Popular Post Kind of a quiet 4th here this year. Normally we would do our family display on the night of the 3rd but grandsons are with their father visiting his parents through Sunday in Tupper Lake, N.Y. Oldest granddaughter lives down state now so she's unavailable. We may do something next weekend?? Youngest granddaughter and Mrs. are off on some errands so I'm currently unsupervised. Happy and blessed 4th of July to all. THANK-YOU ALL who sacrificed that I may enjoy my freedom today!!

Granddaughter served up her version of quesadilla cheeseburgers, cole slaw, potato salad, peach tea and red velvet cake for dessert. Evening weather turned out perfect for us to watch the aerial fireworks display put on by the neighboring small town. It's about 5 miles away by the crow. Wish we had musical talent entertainment like Ray and Kate today.
July 5, 20241 yr I can remember listening to Kate Smith singing "God bless America" Loved listening to her. At our age we spent the evening of the 4th listening to the Boston pops orchestra celebration and then watching the fireworks display.in Boston. Great show. '
