Popular Post Al B Posted March 2, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 2, 2019 Sorry to hear of your mom's problems John. Seems I recently put my family thru a stressful period and I understand what you're experiencing. Like your mom, watching the news has been an important part of my day. Now for some reason, it doesn't have that importance anymore. There are things to do to occupy my time that are much more enjoyable. Time with family, and really looking forward to getting back in the shop. Hope your mom has a quick recovery and really enjoys her knitting. Grandpadave52, FlGatorwood, Dadio and 3 others 6 Quote

My Mom is 93. She lives in an independent living facility but we see her declining a little faster all the time. The worst part, for me, is to see her losing the desire to do the things she once enjoyed. Dadio, hatuffej, Cal and 4 others 2 5 Quote
Al B Posted March 2, 2019 Report Posted March 2, 2019 Not so much a loss of desire Lew as it is the loss of energy. At 87 I often wish I could do things I did in the past, but I know I can't. The mind says yes, but the body says no. That said, I know I've enjoyed a long tenure here. My son left us after only 59 years. FlGatorwood, Cal, HARO50 and 4 others 1 6 Quote

He set many state records and and is still in the top ten of almost all of them. Even besting LeBron (and before there was a three point shot). By the time I was in high school we missed a perfect record by one game -- the only game we won all year was to beat the top seed in the all-county tournament. I think they took us for granted. Went to a state school and became a teacher, never went pro. FlGatorwood, Dadio, Gene Howe and 3 others 4 2 Quote

Now for some reason, it doesn't have that importance anymore. There are things to do to occupy my time that are much more enjoyable. When I first was laid off, then retired, I was a news hound. I had the TV on at 6 AM...again at NOON, then 11 PM. IDK, maybe all the years of working & traveling when my primary access was via radio or an occasional loop TV news at work. The past 5 years, not so much. I get breaking news on my tablet or phone. I choose to read what interests me and swipe away the rest. I find I'm much happier when I know nothing about the Kardashians, Prince William & Kate, Tesla's mess and so on. The local weather is usually depressing enough without all the negative news. It takes about 15 minutes to read the 8 pages of our daily local paper; if my name is not in the Obits, I know it's a good day ahead. When I can't work in the shop or outside and not hanging out with all of you great people, I'm reading something; usually a book, or magazine; sometimes a tool catalog, scanning CL or watching "my" birds at the feeders. Some days the cat forces me to take a nap against my will so I'm not aggravating her. HARO50, FlGatorwood, Cal and 3 others 2 4 Quote
Gerald Posted March 2, 2019 Report Posted March 2, 2019 Ron it looks like that may be the next Larry Bird you got there. Good luck in the game, probably over now. John Sorry to hear about your mom. Going to the range with my son tomorrow morning to see if he can get the hang of his P365. In the afternoon I have someone comeing to the shop so I can try to round a 4 foot piece of Black Jack Oak ( not gonna happen in that length) but we will try. Ron Dudelston Posted March 2, 2019 Author Report Posted March 2, 2019 Well gang, Blackford lost. However , they got beat by a really, really good team. Delta has a 6’ 8” center that kept the boards really clean. Always next year! Cal, Grandpadave52, FlGatorwood and 1 other 1 3 Quote

Popular Post Gene Howe Posted March 2, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 2, 2019 (edited) I played HS Football. Our school was tiny. Less than 100 kids in HS. So the football coach was also the basketball coach. In my sophomore year, I tried to try out for basketball. But, before I could even set foot on the gym floor, the coach said no. He said he needed me for football and he was afraid I'd trip over the painted lines. Not that I was clumsy or anything. Larry Buskirk Posted March 2, 2019 Report Posted March 2, 2019 @John Morris, Sorry to hear about your folks, BTDT. I myself am recovering from a concussion I managed to give myself when trying to get the well done on the 22nd of last month. I tried removing the 4" angle iron, and part of the concrete block wall with my head when I didn't duck far/fast enough going into the well cubby hole. Yea, I cracked the cocoanut, rang the bell, saw constellations (not just stars),etc.,etc.. Believe me, I found something harder than my head!!! And no the wells not fixed yet. We found one cracked PVC pipe, fixed that only to find out the foot valve was bad. So we replaced the whole foot valve and jet assemblies. There must be a second cracked pipe, because we still can't get the pipes to fill for a prime. When it gets above freezing I'll replace all of the pipes. Gene Howe Posted March 2, 2019 Report Posted March 2, 2019 Wow, Larry. That's not a good thing. Hope you recover without any ill effects. Did ya have to make a hospital trip? What are you guys doing for water? Not looking forward to redoing our well. It's 450' down there. That's a job for the pros. $$$ p_toad, HARO50, FlGatorwood and 3 others 3 3 Quote

Boy Larry...if it wasn't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all... Good to hear you're OK...sorry about the well. That has to be very frustrating besides the inconvenience. Can't move too fast, or lean to far forward without getting rather dizzy. (I shouldn't really notice this ) I had a pretty good headache for a few days though. I'm hauling jugs from next door for water in the meantime. Thanks John, It'll take more than a piece of 4" angle iron, and concrete blocks to keep me down. They do however tend to slow me down. 44 minutes ago, Grandpadave52 said: Boy Larry...if it wasn't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all... Good to hear you're OK...sorry about the well. Popular Post DAB Posted March 2, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 2, 2019 Success! after digging for 3 days (2 days to lay the trench drain in place in front of the garage apron, 1 day to dig a ditch from the trench drain drain to an existing drainage ditch, and then the new ditch had 4 inch corrugated pipe laid in it to carry the water), i tried it out this morning after power washing the garage floor and directing the water toward the drain, and then let the hose run into the trench drain for a bit, the system works! yay. calling for rain tonight. hopefully, this will fix the problem of water creeping into the garage, as the gravel driveway is higher than the garage floor.
