February 16, 20197 yr Popular Post Something near and dear to my own heart is reading, and I love reading manuals and how to books about our craft. How would you all feel about a sub forum for reading books for each pertinent forum such as General Woodworking, Turning, Scrolling, etc. In this sub forum we could share the books we read and review them as well and exchange tips on where to find those books for a great price etc etc. Just trying to get a feel for the popularity or not. Thanks for hearing me out.
February 16, 20197 yr Popular Post John, I too share the passion for reading book(s). It seems to be a rapidly declining past time in a day of electronic gadgetry. While I should spend more time reading books (and my manuals too) related to our craft I don't. Personally, my genre continues to be deeply rooted in historically accurate WWII history and related biographies. I am taking a break even from those currently since I recently graciously received the full set of "Wiregrass" books from our old friend @Buckaroo...aka Buck Nall. Rather than add sub-forums to each pertinent category, what about a single forum addition for "Books-Reading" or something to that effect? Within that forum, then sub-divide the various categories including one for manuals and also possibly include a General-Non-fiction? Just typing out loud here way past my bed-time...anyways my $.02. That's a great idea Gramps, that way we could indeed include books outside of the craft, thanks.
February 16, 20197 yr Sounds like a capital idea. Especially if purchasing sites are included. Edited February 16, 20197 yr by Gene Howe
February 16, 20197 yr I'm the worst person in the world for reading but it sounds like a great idea for those who ejnoy it.
February 16, 20197 yr I very seldom read anything, I was taught to read word by word so it takes me forever to read, but good idea for those who know how to read. Herb Edited February 16, 20197 yr by Dadio

February 16, 20197 yr First let me apologize. I gots no idea on how and why, my brain works (or doesn’t), the it does. This is a forum. Everyone reads! Okay I get why we LIKE pictures, but everyone reads! Sorry for the outburst. I finished my grilled chicken, salad for lunch, instead of my usual chicken parm sub, half a bag of chips. I had some wine with it. WHOOPPEE! I would love to see a whatever, devoted to reading. I MIGHT even follow it, and read me one or two of the recommendations.

February 20, 20197 yr John, great idea(s)! I have read and re-read the books you recommended to me on the Shaker furniture. Listing of the quality books here, recommended by the membership, would help to not waste money on sub-standard texts. It would, also, serve to help us prepare for projects that expand our talents.
April 20, 20197 yr @John Morris --- did we ever get the reading books sub forum? if so can you please direct me to it. Thks smitty

May 20, 20197 yr Author Popular Post So, this is really exciting, we have the ability to review books in a format that automatically populates your topic/review, with the cover image of the book you are reviewing, with author, and related books, and genre information. We have available to us a nicely developed software package that will handle this for us. You enter the title of your book in a field, then a list of books populates your topic, and you can choose the book from the list. Once the topic is submitted, there is an option to purchase the book from Amazon by anyone who happens to read your review. We don't have an Amazon account but I am considering it as a source of income for our community here. If someone reads the review of the book, then decides they would like to buy it, they can click on buy, they purchase the book, and we received a small commission, I believe in the area of 6 to 10 percent. Hey, every little bit helps! The topic creation process is as easy as normal, all you have to do is enter the actual title of your book or magazine to review, that's it, then add your review. The software does the rest. Stay tuned, this can be fun.
