Good choice on the cut-off tool...got one just like it====>GO H-F! It is 1/4", Dave. I use that old funny looking hacksaw to cut the rod( in the picture above HF tool), but the Dremel or the HF tool work slick for cutting steel.

Probably a metric or number size closer but I have very few metric bits and my number/letter sizes are much smaller. Just curious. I have that Wood Magazine issue that featured this/similar plane...just have to find it; blew it off at the time. But after seeing your detailed build process you've inspired me; I would like to give one of these a try...might even be a good to do one with my youngest grand-daughter for a 4-H Woodworking Project. January 3, 20197 yr Since the width varies slightly I am guessing that the wedge will also vary sightly as when drilling is done is wood alignment is difficult at best? Meaning each wedge have to be fitted?
January 3, 20197 yr Author Popular Post @GrandpaDave52 The brass rod is .250 and I found a drill bit( Brad point) that is .249 and it is perfect press fit. @Gerald Yes the width varies so that the width of the wedge has to be fitted to the plane. Also the hole for the pin is close but not the same on each so the wedge portion has to be fit for each plane.

Thanks Herb...you have done some cool stuff; the marking gauges, the dowel drill centering fixture, the bow sander, and ???, but these planes are the top of your tool line IMO. You maybe need to consider an on-line WW'ing specialty tool store...You wouldn't even need to give away a free flashlight, multi-meter or tarp

What year was that, Dave? I might still have it too. It did have full scale plans in it if I am not mistaken. Herb

Herb I don't remember Herb...it doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but I guess it had to be more than 2 years, 'cause I let my subscription die after they shut down the forum. It's supposed to warm up some here the next few days, I'll dig those file boxes out of the garage and thumb back through...I probably can search their site too for the issue number. I think you're correct it did have the plans for it...maybe a centerfold? It will be a while anyway...will need to warm up A LOT before tackling a project like that. Just watching your build makes it look like a fun project, doesn't take a truck load of lumber or lots of floor space, plus have an heirloom tool. In the meantime, I can start stocking up on band aids.

That may be the one I'm recalling, but I'm pretty sure I have the earlier issue (Like Herbs) too...will take a little more digging. I see where you can order the plans as a digital download for $2.95. That's cheaper than a Starbucks and far more better too.
January 4, 20197 yr Author Popular Post They had one on the Norris Plane too . I did that one, with just a hacksaw and a file for the metal parts, the only thing I bought was the plane iron and knurled knob. Herb
January 4, 20197 yr Popular Post Absolutely beautiful piece of work Herb. Ditto to @Gene Howe's comment.

January 9, 20197 yr Popular Post @Dadio, @Gerald, Found it; surprisingly easy too...You were correct Herb, there is a full-size plan for the plane body & wedge. I'll read up this winter plus I've bookmarked your thread. It'll be late spring into the summer anyway, but doing a couple of these is now on my bucket list. Thanks for your detailed thread and to show "real people" do these projects. If only mine turn out half as good as yours, I'll be pleased.
