Sketch up lover?

Hi Guys, anyone really like fooling around on Sketch Up? I'd love to get some help coming up with a design for a scrap wood bin that would fit under my stairs but will have the most variety of cubbies and sizes of bins. Any takers?

I think we worked through this very nicely, I'll have to add some supports/stop to the small shelves if I add them. Guys, do you see any room for improvement?? I might just go with one depending

Lew, I really need the  "best" most useful layout. Was thinking the bearing surfaces in 3/4" and all the dividers use 1/2" ply. Like this but in the triangle that the cart under the steps would be.

The triangle shape- would that be looking at the 24” side with the tall bins on the high part?

Lew, here is the end shape of the cart. The depth will be about 32".

OK, I see it now. Let me play with this idea. I have an add on to Sketchup called "Cut List"(free version) let's see how it handles the  pieces.

@Gene Howe, when you can, will you please move this to Plans and Software Forum? Thanks! And thanks Pat for the great topic!:)

Thats the basic shape but want to break it up into as many different sized bins that make sense to store short cut offs like in the rectangle version I showed you.

Ok. Just wanted to see if we were on the same page as far as shape was concerned. I’ll add some shelves/spacers and post a picture

Here's something-

The Sketchup Cutlist plugin I have doesn't work too well. I can see from the images that you may be able to rearrange the pieces to maybe get a little less waste. The PDF file is an image of the cutlist layout. I need to add dimensions to the picture if it meets with your approval. Do you have Sketchup or a Sketchup viewer so that your can see the drawing in 3D?

Since the cart will live under the stairs thinking it would make more sense to have open access from the end facing us in the drawing. By ladder stepping the cubbies it would allow better sorting of sizes.

That's more like it buddy. Is it possible to add one full size slot from the end so I can store some small plywood sections?

Sure. Also, how do you want to address supporting the shelves? Full length "side" or just a front "support?
