Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

This past weekend I focused on my new addition to my shop, this fabulous workbench, oak base, with oak cabinets and walnut drawer pulls, with a 4" thick top made of Maple and Oak. It has an end vise that is very powerful. The top mounted vise is a really cool one too, it's an old Columbian, but I'll move it to another location in the shop. If anyone has been following my good fortune, I was contacted by some life long friends awhile back, and informed that their neighbor was looking for a recipient of her deceased husbands woodworking shop, he was a WWII and Korean War Navy Veteran, a very accomplished woodworker among other trades, a high school shop teacher since he came out of service for our nation, his name was Jim Eckler. Our friends recommended myself as the recipient, and here I am now.

I sincerely believe it was Providence, that I have received this gift of a bench and many hand tools, as in my own life, I was ready to move to mainly a hand tool shop and downsize significantly, I was hesitating for awhile, then this happened, and this event touched me off to make the move. Over the past few weeks I have sold off all of my machinery but for one lunchbox planer, and I purchased a Shopsmith with a portion of the proceeds of my big sale, for the moments I really need power, and tucked it in a nice compact corner of our garage.

This bench, will be the mainstay of my work space, I really love it, it's at least 40 or so years old, and it has a ton of character. The holdfasts I purchased off a young man from Ebay, he hand forges these holdfasts and they work very well, if you are in interested in the holdfasts let me know, I'll give you the contact information. I can't wait to get to work on my bench, and honor it appropriately.

Weekend blah...some type of respiratory epizoodik. Think I finally sweat it out late yesterday and during the night. We'll see...

Breakfast for 7 this AM counting myself...once everyone was out the door, I had a two egg, cheese + salsa omelet, 2 strips of bacon, sausage patty, OJ & working on my coffee...

Litter boxes cleaned, trash out for MO PU, dog/cats fed/watered...Cat thinks we should take a quick nap:rolleyes:

Week ahead, open & clean the grease trap, mowing resumes, brush to clean-up, hedges need trimmed, normal transport assignments, (3) volleyball meets, rest TBD.

Beautiful addition to the Morris Shop. What an heirloom.

I may be slightly GREEN with envy:P

John that is some bench. Must have taken 4 good men to move it , I know it would take that to move mine about the same size.

Had a good club meeting Saturday after which I was wasted. Today plan to get the club computer out and update it and try out the new webcam setup. Then out to the shop to unpack tools from the weekend and do some turning for Christmas.

Hope to get a sheet of 1/2 ply to do drawers for lathe storage this week. Could not believe they wanted $21 for 2x4 or 43 for full sheet, sounds like highway robbery.

Phyl had a wonderful birthday celebration. Our boys prepared and grilled great Surf and Turf meal. Crab legs, big shrimp, and scallops. The "Turf was a huge 2" thick Porterhouse, lightly grilled and sliced into strips. Almost Steak Tartare. The sides were salads, corn on the cob, and some of the best scalloped potatoes I've ever tasted. Her cake was a lemon cake with vanilla ice cream. Not a wimpy cake, either. A nice heavy, moist and rich one with lemon icing.

She enjoyed the meal immensely, as did everyone.

The next day, we all went to have some family portraits made. My 11 y.o. granddaughter rode back home with me. She and I stopped at a Sonic and we each got a large peanut butter shake. It was a 35 mile trip back to the house. We didn't quite finish those shakes before we got home.

We got back to the mesa at 11 AM today. It's a five hour drive and, now were hungry again.

Son's second-last chemo week. Blood work / doctor appt. this morning, 2 1/2 hours of chemo tomorrow, followed by two days at home with a bottle of poison attached to his I.V., then back to the cancer center Thursday to get it removed. In two weeks, do it all over again, hopefully for the last time.  The good news is, he's improving steadily. The doctor who gave him a maximum of three years back in March is now optimistic for a full recovery! :) He still tires easily, but is in good spirits. He feels the Good Lord gave him this as a way to help others. He started a web thingy to support others going through this, and has well over 200 followers already. Some good may yet come of this!

Somehow, the shop hasn't seen a lot of activity of late. I'm sure most of you can understand.

With us still working on getting our house here in So. Calif. to get sold, we are still doing "Open Houses" with our Realtor and her team. We decided that we needed to get away from all the hub-bub so we dropped off our Miniature Schnauzer with a local "Dog Spa" here in town and headed down to San Diego, CA for some R&R while our Realtor held down the fort.

We walked around the historical  "Old Town" that has many historical building and museums as well as lots of historical dancing and music as San Diego was the crossroads for the Spaniards, Mexicans, Native Americans and English settlers. Then we headed down San Diego Harbor to walk around the Sea Port Village with lots of great restaurants. After dinner we walked a short distance to go by the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier and watch the sunset.

John, we are praying for a complete recovery for your son.

Rained here again today. Leftovers from Florence. Pennsylvania seems to the "elephant graveyard" for dying hurricanes. Gorden last week Florence this week. The local water table is about 3' above ground!

Started turning some ornaments for the Easy Wood Tools Christmas tree.

We were in Key West many years ago. Everyone there seemed to gather on the docks, drinks in hand, and cheer as the sun went down. Great palce back then!

Starting to see the light at the end of the house siding tunnel.  Down to putting up soffit on the back side of the house.  That’s my broken record for the week.
