that others would want to support a fellow woodworker and buy some hoods from me.

Had no idea you made them and SOLD them.

Perhaps starting my own website where I can control my posts better.

Always a possibility, and why not try it?  Many people have done things like this and made money at it.  Now on the flip side it is not as easy as one might think.  Costs money to have a server, storage space cost money, and then of course your time invested in keeping it up to date, monitoring content, and a host of other details I am sure.  Being curious about this I recently inquired and got a real eye opener moment with how much it cost to run.  If you use sponsors then they will not take well to what they deem offensive posts, and can pull out at will.  So some admin, and rules for posting will be needed. At some point someone will get feelings hurt and as the owner of the site you get to deal with it.

Walk in @John Morris shoes for a moment.  Guy works for "FREE" and so ties up his personal time everyday to do all the above.  He has a life too, things to do, good events, things in life health or otherwise that go deep south.  And yet he is here everyday dealing with it.

I have a simple set of rules for posting.

1. Positive attitude /  or information

2.A question about something

3.Humorous =  Yes / No

4. No complaints. That's what messages to admin are for.

It is a thankless job, there is no reward in being a forum host here, except for your own happiness in helping others. I tried. I'm done.

  • It's just darned hard work. If it weren't for the lavish perks, I'd quit.

the little green men don't exist in this community,

Well maybe, last month on my birthday I had a few drinks.  I was a little green next morning.:throbbinghead:

Did not take pics, kinda scary, maybe not in the realm of "quality content":JawDrop:

These forums allow us to share ideas, and someone copying or duplicating said ideas is considered (again, by me) to be an honorable thing. I've never expected to be rewarded financially from this, the rewards comes from helping others.

Fred, I looked at your profile and didn't see where you took the time to come ups with a new way to do something, and then shared it. Maybe you can point me to where it is that you did that.

Charlie, I'm not the inventor you are but I have shared plenty, mostly on other forums like Woodnet (they have no gallery)...and almost always in reply to a question. I've never told someone that I had the answer to their question and will provide on they pay me; just the opposite, if I can help with something I've done I will. But here's a few pics of some stuff I've done and shared. I made the DS hood because the OEM couldn't be modified to accept a 6" connection (I want 6" at the tool). The Magnahelic gauge on the DC tells me when to clean the filter, and ultimately when to replace it. The gray box on the wall is a home made remote, the DC motor is too large for the commercial remotes available. The duct work on the Unisaw had to be made because  this model didn't have a port...and I want it to be 6" The band saw connection was given to me by someone over at the old Wood Forum, and it works as well as can be expected. I have none of these tools anymore, they've all been replaced (including the DC, but I kept the switch and gauge). I have no interest in being in a peeing peeing contest with you, and you were the one who claimed the big improvements. The rest of us just want to see them. But to expect some payment (unless you sell them directly) is unrealistic (IMHO). Anyway:

My JET has a small 2 1/2 inch port at the bottom.  Never thought about going in from this point with a larger pipe.

If my ideas aren't worth anything, then why bother ?

Edited by CharlieL

Charlie we have all shared ideas and are not inventors but innovators and use ideas to make solutions to problems and better working in our shops. Now if you want to sell your ideas just start your factory and website and when done you can come back to this site and post a link to your site. Who knows we may be interested in buying. However we would all , I think, really like for you to just drop all your paranoid delusions toward us. Not to chase you away just to get on with life.

I've interacted with Fred for a very long time on a few forums and find him quite generous.  Just last Summer Fred hosted a picnic at his home for any forum member who wished to attend.  You must have missed the pages of posts associated with the sharing and fun the attendees had and relayed to us, who I might add, wished they could attend but couldn't.  The majority of the others are just as generous and willingly share their projects and ideas.  In fact I would say you are the first person I've encountered who was not willing to share.  Forums, especially this one, are created for the sole intent of bringing like minded people together to share in their specific hobbies and like ventures.  I don't see where anything else was ever implied and am sorry that you wish not to participate in kind.  Life is so much easier when people are nice to each other.

Gunny, I've seen that pipe located down at the bottom of the door, and it might be out of the way a little more if you do that. It certainly works better than that puny OEM hook up.

I agree, you shouldn't bother.

I have a Craftsman (Rikon made) band saw with ports similar to the picture shown below.  98% of the dust and debris is collected.

I'm very serious about this, this is the second time that I've asked management here to please delete what I started, this whole topic / thread / and my pictures. I'll keep my ideas to myself since they are aren't worth anything to you or your members.

Still playing the "poor me" card? I don't think anyone here has said your ideas aren't worth anything. The very first reply to your opening post was from me admiring the work you did on the DC. (BTW, did you tell Phil Thein thanks for the separator idea?). I'm personally having trouble following where you get the idea everyone disses your ideas...except for the stuff about being paid for them. I've tried to explain other reasons to share ideas, all to no avail.I also believe the members here appreciate suggestions. But that's just me; you obviously have a different take on things. Go back and read the post above from Gerald, his suggestion of starting a factory and website and then linking it may be something you want to consider. Best to you Charlie, but I think I'll sign out of this thread. One other thing, thanks for the contributions above.

Mr Thien has a attitude with me for some reason. He has been thanked.
