I did try one of the projects in the book but didn't turn out so well. I still have it but out in the shop. I don't think it it was just my thing. Besides having a crappy bandsaw. I'll stick to building other things!! Thank you for at least lending me the book to give it a try!! Thanks for the recall Larry. I was thinking it was Dave, but now I definitely remember it was you who returned the book to me. Another senior moment. There are still the many diy projects that have to be done. Whatever I do, the primary DIY shop tools will always stay. Funny you should mention the book by Lois Keener Ventura. After you returned the book it went to Dave. I don't think he ever used it . My bro-in law asked about it and when I mentioned this to Dave, he returned to book so my bro-in law could use it. Bro -in-law then returned the book to me and I still have it. Everyone took very good care of it. I just used it to make a BS box that I'll be posting a photo of soon. I may get a bit more use of my dremel tool if I decide on doing some model building. Might even get back to the Niagara project that I never finished. I'm sure Larry Jenkins would be glad to see that happen. I bought the model from him when he decided it wasn't his thing and wanted to get back to restoring a Model A Ford truck. Meanwhile, Artie and I are planning a get together of the New England chapter of the Patriot Woodworkers. If all goes as planned I will be touring Arties workshop on Sept. 26 and we will be sitting across the table for conversation and lunch. b Our meeting was scheduled for Oct 26, this coming Saturday, but that had to get rescheduled. I am hoping that Al and myself set another date soon. I owe him a lunch If the PWW jet is available, anyone else that can make it? I know that once the tools are gone, I wont be able to spend that time in the shop, even though it may be for shorter times, and maybe not as often, but I do still enjoy it when I'm in the shop. Al, I think you answered your own question with your above comments. You're not ready to quit. I see from looking at your shop that you are pretty well equipped. You mentioned doing Band Saw Boxes, with the proper height stool you could do these from a seated position. Same goes for using your Scroll Saw, and a few of your other machines. Fretwork projects take lots of time. I'll be 62, and this topic has me considering down sizing some. Cal

I'm 78 and not considering down sizing. I do use stools and chairs when I can. Can't stand too long but, moving around is OK. My shop has a concrete floor. I bought several of those mats from HF. Two stacked make standing easier, though. It's easier on the knees and hips. But, the back still hurts after a while. Got a back brace thingie but I hate wearing it. When the time comes, it won't be downsizing. It'll be out sizing. In the meantime, the projects just get smaller. Popular Post Al B
Hey guys, I started this conversation about a year and a half ago. Looks like an on again off again routine with me. In a nut-shell, I enjoy my time woodworking. The aging process has stolen a lot of energy and added a bit of pain, but the love of woodworking still lingers. Living on a fixed retirement income for the past 16 years has tightened the budget, and tools that haven't been used in years will seriously be considered expendable. Pneumatic nailers and staplers quickly come to mind. Haven't used them since I discovered joinery and screws ! Maybe the sales can be turned into wood for future small projects. I am just thrilled to hear that the will to continue wood working will still be there and hope I have the ability to do so when and if I get there. You are an inspiration to me Al. Al, Basically the same situation. I have tools I haven't used in years, and as I get older really don't see myself using for future projects. In reality I need the shop space more than I need to keep machines/tools I rarely use. 20 hours ago, Gene Howe said: In the meantime, the projects just get smaller. Would replace the 10" 60 T normally used for miters and straight cross cuts. Here's the blade used in my Skil 77. Oughtta work as well on the 'Smith. https://tenryusawblades.com/product.php?productid=17757&cat=464&page=1 Certainly cheaper than what's on there now. https://tenryusawblades.com/product.php?productid=17905&cat=470&page=2 Edited October 25, 2019 by Gene Howe Gunny, Al B and Artie
