My wife's parents separately emigrated from Germany in the 1920. Needless to say, I was introduced to a lot of German cuisine when we got married. Stollen was pretty good. I remember being in a German restaurant in Grand Rapids when the waitress, dressed in a dirndl tried to explain what sauerbraten was, saying that if I hadn't grown up with it, it might be unknown. I assured her that even though I hadn't grown up with it, I'd been married to a first generation German for 25 years. Cincinnati has a lot of German heritage. There are a number of old churches downtown with German names on the walls. And the old district is called "Over the Rhine" You can also get goetta. If you didn't hear someone, you can say, "Please?" (Bitte)
August 30, 20178 yr My great-aunt and her husband settled in Passaic, NJ in 1922, then moved to Sasquehanna Depot, Pensylvania. I finally met their daughter and family in the seventies, and still have relatives in Colorado. John

August 31, 20178 yr @Michael Thuman, are you ok with some of the feedback here? You have a great point, I think we can all work on being more detailed in our project descriptions and accepting of constructive criticism.
September 5, 20178 yr Author Thanks all for listening and keeping in mind that we are all teachers. How ever as one said hijacking a thread is not the thing to do just start a new one. Hopefully we will see more to the content form the builders. I am starting to think I should have been a teacher. My first project to debut will be as through as I can be. Thanks all Michael
