Bill, this was great feedback, thanks.

I forwarded your findings to our theme developer, and they clearly stated that if cookies are dumped, the preferences are dumped. Just the way it is. For better or for worse, it is what it is at this point. Is there any way you can save cookies for our community, even during your nightly clean up? Thanks!

in FF....

Thanks for the advise...but I already know this. My settings appear to be correct. I have whitelisted the site, and accept cookies from it (it is one of the few that I do accept), etc. I don't believe the problem lies with FF. I'll have to look into it further, though.

@John Morris

It is obvious, that, I have a setting that is off. This forum appears to have the proper permissions based on my settings and I accept the cookies. They may not be retained when I leave the browser. I may just dump my settings and start over.

I check CCleaner and de-selected cookies on the cleaning. It made no difference, so the problem has to lie with my FF settings. I'll play with it and see what happens. It really isn't a big deal about the preferences defaulting for me. I was just doing some beta testing to try and discover the bugs.

I will certainly pass on whatever I find in the spirit of offering constructive information.

That's what this is all about! We need your feedback Bill. What ever you find I'd like to keep the theme developer informed as well. Thanks Bill.

OK, I think that I have solved the problem.

I only accept third party cookies on a temporary basis. My browser was set to dump ANY third party cookies when the browser was shut down.

So, I dumped all of my whitelisted sites and only added the forum, I then change my setting in FF to keep the third party cookies until they expire. The setting preferences remained intact on log-in. Problem solved.

The only issue is that I DO NOT as a rule allow any third party cookies to remain as residents. I will have to now keep an eye out for other sites adding these cookies and add them to an exception list and prevent them from remaining when I exit the browser.

@lew

That was my next step...you just save me from going and having to look for it.  Thanks.

I only use a couple of add-ons as I find that they slow down the computer. In this case I'll try it out and see how it functions. The main thing is to help John work out the bugs and offer some solutions and viable work-a-rounds. Not everyone has their computers set up the same way. I like to use certain features that others, refuse to use, and vise versa.

Anyway the issue is resolved (for now) and if anyone runs into the same/similar problem we now know how to fix it.

Further experimentation showed, that, the real culprit was dumping the cookies when I closed the browser. I was able to change back my setting not to accept 3rd party cookies and left "until they expire" selected. I appears to be functioning correctly still. I'm going back to re-select the the cookie option in CCleaner and see if that affects it.

Well, I had to re de-select the cookies option in my CCleaner for FireFox. It cleans out the cookies and my forum settings revert back to the default.

I'm not sure how this will affect everything or where else to look. Apparently, I have a couple of choices in order to utilize any personal preferences other then the default. Either leave the cookies alone and keep my preferences, occasionally dump the cookies and redo the preferences, or just continue with my usual cookie cleaning and use the default screen.

Cookies are not always harmless. I have always been able to avoid a lot of systems problems by controlling/prohibiting some invasive cookies from getting onto the system. I'm going to use the ADD-ON that lew suggested for awhile. If it controls the cookie issue adequately then I can eliminate the cookie cleaning chores through CCleaner and FireFox.

Just looked at this...you left out a step in the hierarchy. It should read:

TOOLS > OPTIONS >PRIVACY>HISTORY > ACCEPT COOKIES > SHOW COOKIES... list cookies to be stored on your computer....
