Are you setup to take plastic? We do a lot of business on cards. Easy to setup and we get a lot of sales that would otherwise walk off.

That's pending. This is my first show and not sure how I feel about doing a lot of them. I suspect I'm just not ambitious enough :) Anyway, one of our club members who does a lot of shows said I must get a square. So, I have registered and they have verified my bank account. I do not have the reader yet, hoping to get it in time to learn how to use it before the show. What she said is almost word for word what you said. She says nobody carries cash anymore. I know I don't, or at least not much.

Well, I finished up the toy cars for the "shoe boxes". They ordered 25 large and 25 small and since it's for the kids we're adding another 3 of each size.

I don't have too much cash to carry anyway!

I've finished up the toy cars for the "shoe boxes". I'll get a picture of them later.

John that is still one full shop. Glad you are finally getting some stretch room. I am still working on Christmas angels Photos to come on PIP. Got to clean up some limbs I cut in the yard. Might try an estate sale tomorrow.

Got to get back on the Photography Blog. Actually have started on the next installment, but do not want to write  a book. May do some light experiments also. Software is hit or miss with me but may share some of that also.

Thanks Gerald, it fills good to start to move around without knocking something over!

I'll be following the photography blog.

Shop is looking great, John. With all that extra space, you can add a few more display cabinets!

For me this is the weekend to transition the old homestead from summer to winter. Pool disassembled and stored, deck furniture stored, deck power washed and ready for a new application of sealer. Supposed to rain tonite so the sealer will have to wait a couple of days.

You know, I love to sell things, but as long as I cover show cost, I love to meet and talk to people. I have met some interesting people at shows and made a lot of new friends. I get offers for wood all the time while there. I don't do it to make a living, I do it for the fun of it, but I enjoy it when I make sells. The only one we do that is regular is First Fridays Florence, Alabama and believe me First Friday seems to get here regular. We do a few other shows during the year but try to not let them get too close to one another.

Again, we do it because we enjoy it.

I know Lew, I guess I better start looking for a few new ones!!!

Thanks,

I am going to spend some time with my brother tomorrow as usual.  I like that.  Want to get the snow plow back off the ATV and shoot some paint on it.  Sunday I would like to do some turning by getting started on the tops I want to do.

OK first is the light pull piece that I am currently working on. As mentioned before it is made from Rosewood. The shiny spots are wax areas and they are also flat that I need to work out yet

Shadow seems to approve of the current progress. Funny how he seems to always be available for critique! :)

This is how the piece started out, its about 2 1/4" long x 1" wide

Next will be a bottle stopper that I need to get done, I am not sure what the wood is but it's almost like Cottonwood. It has a nice warm color to it, once its got a finish on it.

Last but not least (for now), is a couple of pen blanks (purple colored maple, that will be done tonight or tomorrow morning.

I'm already tired just thinking of all this, I need a nap! LOL :D

Once again, that's almost verbatim what Fred and Rhonda told me, said they just love doing shows and if they make a little money, so much the better. Fred turns big stuff, deep hollow forms and large bowls, Rhonda does some really nice work with a scroll saw.  Saw them at a show this early fall and Rhonda told me they had shows for the next nine weekends.

I wish I had that many shows I could get to, I think it would be killer for the way I need to sell :)

Like a lot of you, I do it for the fun, but I also do it to make a bit of money when I can.

Steve, at John Moody's insistance, I got an Intuit reader and it was a wise choice.  Probably 75% of my business is on plastic at juried shows.  I do one show in November that is more craft driven and it is mostly cash.  Its also a smaller revenue maker than the juried shows.

John, your shop makes my head spin! Your shop looks the same even with the room additions!

I am late to the show here, I was in Land Surveying seminars all day Thursday and all day Friday, up around 4am (regular time heading out to work) and back home around 7pm, the seminars were across our county so there was a tad bit of a drive.

During some of the more slower portions of the seminar, I was able to jump on my smart phone and check in here though. As many of you may know, business related seminars can be a looooong day. But we mingled, ate seminar cookies and danishes, drank seminar coffee, and ate a pretty danged good seminar lunch actually, it was the first seminar I have been too where they did not serve dry chicken. The seminar was being held at California Poly-Tech of Pomona, a really nice college, I was able to walk around the campus a little and scout it out for our second out of three child lined up for college, I was impressed with the school. We have one in college now (freshman), our second daughter is lined up in two more years for college, and our third child son, will be rearing up last for college.

It was actually a good seminar, we had professionals in our field presenting land law, and Land Survey standards, and of course of great interest to myself, a presentation on the application process to acquire license in the field.

Then we wrapped it all up with an open bar, I grabbed a Diet Pepsi and hit the road and couldn't wait to get back home. Returned home and found a wonderful dinner with a happy family waiting. Well not really waiting, the kids ate, but wife waited to eat with me!

I am so happy to see all the activity for this Friday topic, some great projects and activity happening! Thanks all for being here, and making our community lively and interesting. Cheers to ya's.
