OK, for the ladies who just can't get enough purple, we have a dyed purple (maple) handle that is about to go onto a stainless steel 2TBSP coffee scoop. That should look good. but we'll see.

I didn't do the dye myself but would love to, and to know how it's done so that the dye is throughout the wood

Well, I finished up the toy cars for the "shoe boxes". They ordered 25 large and 25 small and since it's for the kids we're adding another 3 of each size.

You know, I love to sell things, but as long as I cover show cost, I love to meet and talk to people. I have met some interesting people at shows and made a lot of new friends. I get offers for wood a

Charles, you'd need a vacuum pump and chamber.

There's a bunch of YouTube vids that show the process. Mostly they are using it to stabilize wood, but it would work for dyes as well.

A 5 CFM pump will run you about  $130. But, you can use a brake bleeder hand pump. They're about $25 at Harbor freight.

Thanks Gene, I thought that may be the way it's done, but wasn't sure. That may be the next big purchase I make.

This week was flag case week.  Here's a pair or walnut ones.  Saturday will now be spent watching college football.   NFL can watch themselves on Sunday.

Nicely done Ron, You make me wish I could do these :)

Charles and Ron, outstanding work!

All the work shown in this post is outstanding.  Charles, your handle looks great and that dyed piece of wood set my mind to thinking.  I may also look into dyed wood done in a vacuum.

Thank you guys, compliments are always appreciated.

That's a bunch of cool cars Harry, do you do the rubber band wind up ones as well?

Beautiful handle, Charles.

Ron, those are good looking cases.

Harry, that's quite a fleet. Love the bright colors. Lotta work there. Kids are worth it, though.

No, I haven't tried a rubber bad car yet. Maybe in the future.

OK cool. The reason I asked is because I don't think there would be a big difference in shape of the cars, but I am stumped as to how to get the power of the band to transfer to forward motion. Oh well it was a thought :D

dado the bottom of the car body deep enough to expose the the center of the axle...

fasten the rubber band to the axle...

fasten the other end of the rubber band to opposing end of the car, inside the dado and under a bit of tension...

drive the car by hand in reverse to wind up the rubber band...

let go of the car...  ZZZZOOOOOOOOOOMMMM....

the wheels need to be fixed to the axle..

both wheels give you sorta straight..

one wheel fastened to the axle give you a curved tracking...

front wheel drive runs better than rear wheel drive..

yur gonna have to play w/ the strengths of the bands for optimum performance..

make sure you can change the bands.. over winding breaks bands and axles...

here...
