  1. Seems I NOW have a Challenge ......Since I made that crack about doing a cabinet better than North Bennet Street School did... Tool Cabinet? Was pictured in this 1911 Catalog...back then, you could order complete tool sets....The one in the Challenge? About as Basic as you could get...27 tools and a lockable wood cabinet to hold them all. So...decided to start out with thin stock.... Here is half of them... Just over $5 per board...have bought 10 of them...so far.. Goal is to finger joint the 4 sides...add solid wood panels and then...split the box into 2 halves....Add a shelf or 2...and build a small drawer... First order of business...is to glue up 2 panels.... Stay tuned..

    Just hanging around

Was down in the shop, to take a few photos...and took a few "extra" ones.. Center is a bit busy... Lower half of the Left door..and looked up a bit.. Just a few saws...drill is a Goodell Pratt...with 3 jaws, more for twist drill bits.. What I was down there for? Seems another site was asking about English made Stanley planes... Figured I could show them my #4c made in England..... Just hanging around...

    Remodelling?

Decided this "mess" needed some work... Plus more eggbeater drills strewn throughout the shop...found a bunch of hangers at Wall E World..under $3 each.. Figured I could use the vise to squeeze some down a bit...didn't care for the screws, though...too hard to start, and way too long... Ripped out the old hanger stuff...and started hanging new ones... Hangers for the hammers did not required squeezes...little ball pean is just sitting in-between 2 screws..doubled up for the 2 pilot hole drills. Not too sure what will go into that "big" open area, just yet....need to go out and buy 10 more hangers....I have Brace drills to hang, next time.. Stay tuned..

So..what is IN that cabinet, anyway

You know, this one? Outside...a ready use area for a few saws, a drill (that is too BIG to hang inside) And a few other toys...maybe open a door or two? Top half of the left hand door..a few saws, a couple squares..lower half? A rack full of screwdrivers, hand drills, a couple block planes, and a few pliers..and a couple dovetail saws Turn slightly to the right.. A few hand planes another saw...look up a bit... Haven't even opened the right hand door yet. Squares, spokeshaves, and drills..even a "4-in-hand" File. Open the right hand door, and set the brace to keep it opened.. A NEW rack for all of my Mortise chisels..more ( and larger) hand planes...even behind the rack.. The 2 squares hanging there also received their own rack. Expansive (4) drill bits, marking gauges, look up just a bit... More drills, Combo squares, 2 hacksaws, Bevel gauges..a lighter weight mallet, and a few other hammers, and the right hand door.. Yes, that is a level sitting there along with a fancy combo square. As for the new squares rack? And, the nice thing is..the doors still close without any issues.. This may not be at THIS level, but.. But seems to suit my shop.. Thanks for looking in!

    Tool Cabinet Rehab.

After the last few projects, decided things were getting out of hand... Having to dig out a box for the right tool.. Bench was always covered in tools...because.. Not really any place to store them...without doing a lot of digging around.. Wasn't enough hooks for the bevel gauges...screwdriver rack was a mess.. Most of these chisels were never needed, rack could be removed, Old Jack needs a better home than on a ledge.. This corner needed to be cleaned out..and start over... Well, that IS a start...where'd all them squares go? Maybe build a rack for these? It is a start... 9 squares should handle about any job...rest went to a drawer, as I never really used those. Sorted through that red rack.. Emptied it out...things were laid out on the bench...things with ugly plastic handles headed to the mechanic's drawer..which left.. Red rack was cut down. The old chisel rack in the left hand door was re-located to the back of the bench's chisel rack.. And the cut-down red rack installed in it's place....then filled up.. And that will do it, for part 1 Stay tuned...
