My dad remembers his uncle, my great uncle Jeroid Merle Tate USMC, coming home for Christmas from WWII and while home, went to his dad's job, his dad worked in a machinist shop, and he had his dad make a knife that was ragged on the top and nasty and it would have been very painful to the victim, Uncle Jeroid had exact specifications for this custom knife, he took it back to war with him when he left. Uncle Jeroid was battle hardened by the time he came home for that Christmas, he'd already been in several South Pacific campaigns, fighting in the jungle, I guess he ordered that knife for a reason. He later landed on Guam, fought, wounded and died of his wounds aboard his ship and buried at sea. He must of seen some pretty bad things to want to inflict that much pain on his enemy with a custom knife like he had made. This story in the video reminded me of the story my dad told me, only because it seems the men brought quite a few things from home to help them stay alive in battle back in the day. That Christmas, they opened their presents December 20th, my dad remembers all the kids gathering at his uncle Jeroid's home for an early Christmas, because he was shipping out the next day, never to be seen again. You can read about my great uncle HERE if you'd like.

Many years ago my father-in-law gave me a single shot 22 "varmint gun" as he called it. It was extremely accurate and he used it coon hunting when he was young. I fired it and it was a nice old gun. I think is is Stevens made in 1894. When I mentioned that I was going to give it to our grandson, my wife said "Wait I think I got the paperwork he got when he bought it." I found it hard to believe, but she had the original hunting license he got in 1912. It even had cloth in the paper. Now I had something special. We believe this was his first gun, he was born in 1899. I made a case for it that will hang on the wall in his room, I'm sure.

Couple days ago my neighbor came over and wanted me to make him a box to put hid $3000 revolver in. He said he wants it made of 1/4 inch birch plywood with inside dimensions of 12 inches long , 7 inches wide , and 2 1/2 inches deep. He also wants it to look really nice. My issue is I not sure if that's even possible with plywood. I bought some 1/2 inch birch plywood ( only 2 ft by 4 ft piece for $17) to think about it because 1/4 inch won't hold. Does anyone have any ideas on assembling to make nice? I personally think I need to find some solid birch somewhere. Any help on this project would be appreciated.
