    Image Gallery in Maintenance

Our image gallery is in maintenance mode right now. I am trying to figure out a way to have instructional prompts while uploading images and creating albums. Thank you for your patience
  2. Hey folks, I'd like to throw something out there. I'd like folks to seriously consider putting descriptions on their gallery images they upload, some ideas are, what is it, type of wood, type of finish, what part of the process is going on here, how did you make that dovetail, mortise and tenon, etc, just something to give the image more context and if a build process, guide the viewer in what is taking place. Also, if you are the tagging type, please tag your images too Also, per the instructions given in the gallery before upload, please title your images appropriately? We'd love to see a title such as Oak Platter, instead of arf2563.jpg for example. How do you all feel about this request? Thanks
  3. Howdy folks, just got an email requesting project images made off your Shopsmith be sent to them, if your image is used you'll get a little thanks gift. Sounds fun!

    PICRYL

This project is a wonderful source for images and documents, I use it for our wiki.
  5. The Patriot Woodworker has some oddity's for sure, and while perusing the statistics of our community, I found one interesting statistic. For Patriot Woodworker Mike Williams, please do not be offended by my statement Mike, because your Newel Post is a great piece of work, in fact the entire stair case you restored/repaired is wonderful. But something as common as a Newel Post Cap, it sure is amazing that among all the work in the community, the most viewed image by far was and is, and has been for some time, his "Newel Post Cap"! Now these are real guest and member views, not spiders or robots, our native stats here in our community do not count spiders and robots. Come on really! A newel post cap! Go figure! Congratulations Dragon!

    Gallery Image Categories

Dear folks, does anyone here beside me see our image gallery categories lacking? http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/gallery/ Should we have more categories? I see one missing right away, or maybe two? How about one for Machinery, and another for Hand Tools? What categories would you like to see added?

  25. Helping Our Website Viewers John, I am not sure where to post this suggestion/comment so I put it in each of the forums. If this isn’t permissible, please delete it. Hey folks, thought I’d pass along an experience I had today. Our neighbor, who lives across the street, dropped by to chat. They are new to the neighborhood (about a year) and we are getting to know them better each day. We knew that our neighbor is a marathoner. In fact, she was in the Boston race when the bomb went off. Fortunately, she was not injured. We also knew she is losing her sight. She has three young sons and she is going blind, tragic. Her sight was the reason for her visit. Sometime back, Microsoft gave away free copies of “Windows Eyesâ€. It is Microsoft’s integrated screen reader. I had given her a copy so that she could use it on her computer. She had a few questions and wondered if I could help. I showed her how to do a few things and then decided to brag little about our Patriot Woodworker sight- as a way to illustrate how the program worked when using a web browser. Everything was going great until we got to some of the images (one of them was mine!). The “reader†started speaking in “numbers†and “lettersâ€. What I discovered was that some of our images didn’t have descriptive names but rather “camera†names. Although the neighbor is not completely sightless, yet, it was confusing to her. It got me to thinking about some of our members- like Lt. Fallon and how difficult it must be to use a computer. We can all help by making sure we rename our images before uploading them. Screen readers and visually members will thank you! Lew
