I was browsing the Blue Spruce Toolworks web site the other day, checking the price on their 12" pull saw, hoping for a sale price. Well, no sale price, so I clicked off. The next day, I received an email from BST stating that they noticed I had left their web site rather quickly. I imagine most of us have received similar emails. They wanted to know if there was something they could do. I replied yes, they could sell me the 12" pull saw for the sale price they had listed on their site for the 8" gents saw. Or, I then suggested, that they could throw in their saw holster for free. I really didn't expect even an answer, let alone agreeing to my offer. To my surprise, they agreed to add the holster for free. All I had to do was order the pull saw at the regular price, and send them the order number. So I did. When I received an email confirming my order and their addition to my order, they had added the holster and one of their signature coffee mugs to the order. So with their permission, I am praising their customer service here. Customer service from anybody these days that is worthy of praise is extremely rare. Their tools are good, although rather pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

Got one of these from Ken Rizza a couple of years ago and love it. Yesterday, it started throwing sparks from around the motor. Disassembled and discovered the brushes were gone!! Called their customer service and surprise- they had replacements in stock! Even more surprising they were only $5.00!!! They will be shipped out Monday. Notice the business end of this machine has all metal gearing and beefy bearings. Really well made. If you have one of these older styles, maybe a set of brushes on hand might be a good thing.

I want to share an experience I just had with Woodpeckers customer service. I do this with the permission of the customer service agent involved, Mike. A disclaimer is needed here: I have no monetary or financial interest in their company, other than the fact that over the years, they have gotten a lot of my money, none of which I have begrudged spending. They recently advertised a sale on a Padauk project pack. I am planning a small table built from Padauk, legs probably walnut, not sure about the aprons yet. I went on line and ordered the project pack. When it arrived, it was a beautiful selection of wood, with the exception of a split in the best piece. I emailed their customer service with a description and pictures of the split, not knowing for sure what their response would be. I received an email from Mike giving me my choice of a refund, or another project pack of Padauk. I opted for another project pack. Mike replied that he would have another pack shipped to me that same day, no shipping charges, and no charge for the wood. How great is that! There is no "but" to this story. The second pack arrived, again with a beautiful selection of wood, and without any splits. I can't say enough good things about Woodpeckers. Yes, their tools and one-time-tools are a bit pricy, but worth every penny in my opinion. I invited Mike to check out our web site, and he said he was interested in doing so, as he is a woodworker also and always ready to improve his skills. This is the split board. Looks like it followed the grain. As I told Mike, it was not totally useless, but would not work for my currently planned project.

I received a pleasant phone call from Shopsmith a few days ago. It was out of the blue. Typically if I don't recognize the number on my cell I just ignore it, but this one came through and was not flagged as spam, so I just felt like picking it up, and on the other end was a really nice Shopsmith gal. She introduced herself and asked if I was in need of any supplies, or upgrades, and if I was happy with my Shopsmith and prior purchases from their online store. I told her all is well, and at this time I am not in need of anything, and she thanked me and after some more courtesies, we hung up. It was so off the wall, and nice to be contacted by them. I am sure they are trying to drum up business, and this follow up was hoping to generate an order, but her genuine personality fits the small USA company. Her phone call has prompted me to visit their online store and I am looking at a few things for my SS. I know I could go out to the second hand market for most of what I need, but if I can I'll purchase from their online store, to do my small part in hopefully helping a USA company stay alive.

I just called Teknatool for the first time today. I am looking for parts for a Nova Brand Lathe (1624). I was sent to Customer Service message line and was told I would be called back within 48 hours. Is this crazy? I've been in Customer Service for 30+ years and have never, ever received this type of service. This in my opinion is ridiculous! 48 hour wait just to talk to somebody? They don't even know what my problem is yet. Is it just me? What is your experience with this company and the service they provide? Please note... this is for me personally, and has nothing to do with Easy Wood Tools.

Memorial Day weekend is coming up. Let us never forget the ultimate sacrifice given by our service members to keep us free. Hey gang, don't forget, we are into our site fundraising raffle. We started off like gangbusters but we have a long way to go! If you haven't already purchased your tickets, please consider checking out the fantastic prizes! All the proceeds from this fundraiser go to the operating costs of this site. Here's more: Our Patriot Turners- If you are a regular reader, you will remember @RustyFN purchased a Record Power lathe sometime back. One of his concerns during his investigation of various manufactures was customer service after purchase. Well, Rusty got a pleasant surprise this past week! Rusty isn't letting any dust grow on that new lathe, either! his week he showed us his latest turning- a gorgeous turned, lidded box. Rusty has more images in his post- @Ron Altier proves once again that "necessity is the mother of invention". Ron solved a problem most all of us have faced while trying to mow the lawn on a sunny day- Check his post to see what Ron made on his lathe- @Gerald was kind enough to add images of some of his turnings to the Patriot site albums. His designs and embellishments are impeccable- What’s Coming Up- Click on the above image for more information and registration. More AAW calendar events can be found at- https://www.woodturner.org/Woodturner/Events/AAW Virtual Events/Woodturner/Virtual-Events/Master-Series-Landing-Page.aspx?_zs=ceDib&_zl=BQDc2 Craft Supplies USA is hosting several turning events- Click on any of the above 3 images for links to more information and registration. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQBave9vnYL9L2Y08HZhy_Q/featured For The Newbies- A little spindle turning, a little hollowing and a little gluing. Alan Stratton puts together more goblets out of two different species- Expand Your Horizons- Mulberry log to bowl with microwave drying- New Turning Items- Not really new but they are now back in stock from Woodturners Wonders- https://woodturnerswonders.com/collections/hand-power-tools/products/angle-drill Everything Else- I've been in a real creative slump lately. Can't really come up with any ideas that stir my turning juices. Thought maybe there was a scrap of cherry down behind the garden shed but when I cut into the carpenter ants had converted it into a summer resort. There was a small piece of Chinese elm crotch there. Cut it round and mounted it on the lathe Got the chance to finally use the present I bought myself a month or so ago, I know, it's like a Rolls Royce hood emblem on a Ford, but hey... Started an ogee type shape on the outside Created the mortice- When I re-chucked it, I didn't think the ogee looked so nice and modified it slightly Hollowed it out- I decided to turn this to finish thickness and let it dry/warp Added a clamp around the perimeter to lessen the warping- The clamp fell off over night. Warping has commenced and a crack has opened up where a bark inclusion was located. Safe turning and stay well

When I bought my Record Power lathe a lot of people were wondering how their customer service would be with them being in the UK including myself. I have not had any problems. I love the lathe. I received an email from Highland Woodworking which is who I bought it from. They said they shipped me something. I called because I didn’t order anything. I was told that a few people had trouble with the controller so Record Power is sending a new one to everybody that bought one of those lathes. I thought that was very good. Now I will have a spare controller in case I need one. Sounds like Record Power customer service is nothing to worry about.
