The mortises turned out really nice, I just took my time, sat down at the bench and diligently approached each mortise, sometimes I'd catch myself getting a bit too fast chopping these out, that's when I make mistakes. So I pulled myself back and slowed down, and they actually turned out very nice.

Not much prettier than a well executed M&T joint.

Unless it's a shoulderless spindle sitting nicely in its hole.

Seriously John, as per usual, your patience was rewarded and your skill is evident.

Thanks Gene, each mortise took about 20 minutes. I was ever so careful not to knick the top edge of the mortise, since the mortise is completely exposed. No shoulder on those slats, it's a slat going into a rectangular hole, pure and simple. By the way, I laid off the coffee till I got em done!:)
